I know this will be blasphemy to the Barber fans but here goes...

I have watched Felix and Choice quiet a bit and I have no doubt they could carry the load. Mainly because we are coming upon tough decisions with our cap situation and I think RB is one of the easier positions to fill.

I would rather keep Canty, Tnew, and Hamlin. I love Barber too but signing him would impact one of the guys I just listed. We have the most depth at CB and RB.

Don't like the topics don't post in them. We suffered through your endless DMAC rants so you can put up with others.

This is one of the reasons why I didn't have a problem with taking Felix over Mendenhall. Provided the turn out somewhat like they are expected to, Felix is more of a back you want if you are more interested in scoring points whereas Mendenhall is the back you want if you are more interested in controlling the ball...both of which are effective ways of winning games. Dallas chose the former as under Garrett they love to put themselve to score as much as possible. Under Parcells they probably would've gone with Mendenhall because Parcells is more interested in controlling the ball and playing keep away.

Plus, there were a ton of critics over the Jags taking Maurice Jones-Drew, despite him being drafted in the third round. If Felix can play close to Jones-Drew's level, Jerry will be getting the last laugh.

My big worry about Barber is longevity. I really don't think he can play too long with his running style.

I would like to keep Canty and think we'll work something out. With our emerging depth at CB and the going rate for shutdown CBs, I'm not sure we can afford to keep TNew if there is still a hard cap. Hamlin is a hard one because Pro Bowl safeties are now going for $6M+/yr. I'm not sure we can afford to pay that much to our safeties. Even if we cut Roy we have to deal with the cap implications of his SB.

It's not about being a Barber fan, neither of those guys have played a down yet. I'd sign Barber and cut Choice in a heart beat if thats what it came down to.

You guys are ready to trade in a guy you know for something unknown, which is just about the worst thing you can do in football.

Considering we spent so long finding a good back, it's amazing how some are so willing to consider the one we have disposable all of a sudden.

They already are. Key difference is Barber has actually gotten better every year, he's like 24 and they are already worrying about his longevity, despite the fact that we got a 1st round RB for that very reason. It's not like the guy will ever see much more than 200 carries a year.

Unfortunately I did not see all those moves that the original poster mentioned. I saw a couple of decent moves and a lot of speed. He is going to have to bring more to the table than pure speed in this league. I have not seen him leave anyone grasping air where he had just been so I am still waiting to be impressed with his moves. I desperately hope he has more than I have seen so far.

Your response has nothing to do with the reasoning in my post.

We are not questioning Barbers talent. We are questioning his longevity and the 40-60 million he wants. That kind of contract will hurt this team in the long run.

I'll have to see Felix and Choice before I could believe they're capable of filling the role.

With that said, despite being a huge fan of Barber, I agree with your overall philosophy and point. As much as we love Barber, investing $40 million in a running back that isn't a true 1,600-yard, 20-TD back could be one of the most regrettable decisions we'll make. He's an amazing player, but at what cost?
