Felix Not Hitting the Hole observations w/Pic

Maybe its stuff like this that has Felix not getting more carries?

Hard to say.

But the coaches and the fans have yet another disconnect. Gee, I wonder which side is most likely correct?

Don't lump me in that category.

There's a reason I don't second-guess play-calling.

I don't think Felix is unsure of himself as much as it's him thinking that he always has to set up his blocks. Which would explain the hesitation. JMO

I think FJ will come around.

But the whole situation is beginning to look eerily like Julius Jones.

hmmm, I have read all the stuff about Felix and have seen "bust" mentioned, and comparisons to Julius Jones. This is not the same love for FJ that we have seen in the pasdt.

Watching the games, it just appears he is not running "fast" like he has in the past. By that, I mean seeing an opening and exploding through it with a burst. He now seems to hesitate just a bit before trying to turn it on, and by then the defense has collapsed on him.

His speed is his game. If he doens't take advantage of his quickness then he is JAG and will be a disappointment. If he starts playing "fast" again, he will be everything we hoped.

It is wait and see now.

Until he starts running into his own blockers then I'll start to worry.

Maybe only getting a handful of carries has Felix always looking for the huge play to make an impression and that's getting him into trouble.

Maybe if they started him and told him "no negative runs...hit the hole hard and get what you can get"...then maybe with 15-20 carries, we'd see more consistancy and more big plays.

I'll keep repeating this...I am even more disturbed that Felix can't seem to crack the lineup as our 3rd down passing situation rb...surely he can block a little, and you need that big play threat on both the draws and the check down passes, swing passes, and screens. He could make teams pay for blitzing their LBs...I'd rather have him in there as a threat than have MBIII in there to block those guys. There has to be something lacking here that the coaches refuse to be candid about.

With the size of our line, we aren't going to run many slow-developing plays by design. Felix knows he needs to hit the hole quick. Since our line has been healthy, 37 out of 46 runs have been either to the A gaps left and right of Gurode, or the B gap right of Davis.

Isn't the draw play a slow developing play?

I'm talking about sweeps, stretch plays, and anything to the outside that places a premium on reading blocks instead of hitting the hole. We don't even run many traps that would necessitate waiting for a pulling blocker. Most of our runs are quick-hitters, and most are up the middle behind two not-so-athletic blockers.

I'm seeing things a lot different from those pictures than the OP. It looks to me as if Felix would have gotten less if he did as the OP suggests, and would have had to get through smaller holes that appear to be closing quickly.

It's also hard to see how the play was moving using still photos unless you have a lot of them.

FJ just needs consistent reps to get in a rhythm..:horse:

Obviously you don't know how to analyze any of these football plays. Clearly the defensive players were able to move off their blocks and close the holes. Each time in each example Felix did exactly what he was supposed to. A draw play has the O-Line pretending pass, not drive blocking, there's a big difference.

I was going to make a "Thats what she said" joke. But alas, after reading the thread all the way through there are some valid points in here.

good thread.

CZ in classic over-reaction mode yet again.

Somebody REALLY made a Julius Jones reference in this thread.

Absolutely comical.

These pictures don't show anything. How about a video clip so we can actually see what the blockers and defenders do in real time?

This is amazing.

Let's begin with the assumption Felix isn't running hard.

Then let's go pull some pictures from the Texan's pre-season game to prove it.

:lmao2: :lmao: :lmao2: :lmao:

Did any part of our running game or did any of our RB's look good in the PS?

THIS.

And while I am a big fan of Sturms, his article on Felix's failings as a runner is worst one he has written. He usually has great observations backed by stats but his conclusions are a more than a bit exaggerated, even based on the weak sampling he provides.

Has anybody seen Chris Johnson's YPC this year?

What's wrong with him?

Did he bulk up too much?

Lose his confidence? Is he afraid to hit the hole?

It feels earily similar to Julius Jones.
