Felix Potentially Coming Back

I think that it is pretty obvious that everyone feels, as I do, that Murray deserves to remain the starter. I do feel, that Felix coming back will still have a significant impact. He could help in the return game, although with the new kickoff rules, not a whole lot. It seems that Murray may not be in the best of shape (to be fair, he did miss alot of time with his early injury), so I think Felix will be a big help in keeping him fresh and adding another weapon out of the backfield. I would really like to see split backfield sets on third down.
Does anyone else feel Felix coming back will have a significant impact?

I think it will certainly have an impact but he just needs to come in when Murray needs a breather. Felix can take it to the house at any time and I feel like Tanner doesn't have that capability.

Use Felix the way NO uses Sproles. 5-10 carries a game. 4-6 catches a game. Hope he breaks one.

Not saying he's another Darren Sproles, but that's the role he's best suited for, IMO.

You can add him on punt and/or KO returns as well.

It should benefit both players.

Murray had to be spelled quite a bit at Oklahoma because he wasn't the kind of back he is today so he's used to it.

Felix.. Well we know his story as the change up guy.

This is nothing but a plus for the Cowboys.

I just hope Felix still has that explosion. He looks a lot rounder now than when we got him from Arkansas.

I think this might be his best role.

I believe, like most, that he is not built to be an every down back so they have to use him on key plays that allow him to get out in space.

Murray will need a breather, right now Murray is second in the NFL in yards after contact. A pretty big stat, and you have to consider the amount of energy it takes to achieve it. That kind of pounding does also take its toll (ala Barber), so we need Felix to give him some rest.

Sproles would be a nice thing for Felix to be right now.

Definitely agree with him being used in a Sproles - type role. 8 - 10 touches a game on screens and draws would be nice, and helping in the return game.

After watching Murray from the sidelines these past 3 weeks, Felix's tolerance for pain has surprisingly quintupled.:)

Talk about some motivation. Watching your playing time and potential payday dwindle helps heal all sprains.

As long as Murray's getting 22 carries or more, and about 5 passes thrown his way, I really don't care how they use Felix.

Yep. I feel like with Miles out and Felix and Murray both healthy, we should be running at least 30 times a game. So 20 for Murray, 10 for Felix, sprinkle in a few screens, maybe a carry or two for Tanner.

Murray is not taking the kind of pounding that Barber received. Murray is breaking more arm tackles because of his ability to hit the holes with speed. Although Murray is not afraid to lower his head and punish would-be tacklers as Earl Thomas found out last Sunday.

Yeah, his speed does make a difference and Barber was an easier target cause he was a slower moving target. My only point was that if he is dishing out punishment, he is taking punishment himself when he does that, and in turn he will need a lil rest during the game to get his wind back and also it will help him and us long term if we can give him that rest.

We need both of them to be successful and get to where we want to be as a team.

That's pretty much how I feel.

I just hope that Garrett does not have that mind set that even if the starter gets injured and comes back that he is automatically the starter again.

In other words, you don't lose your starter position because of injury.

Play the best guy on the team....

;)

If you have not stopped believing anything this guy says regarding Murray and Oklahoma you should be punched in the face.

Catch here has been incorrect w/ every facet of Murray to the Cowboys and Murrays career at Oklahoma.

The posters disdain of anything Sooner far outweighs any clear and rational input he could ever claim regarding Murray.

Do better...

Think about what he says here.

Now after reading that does that truly say what it should about the guy holding the following records at Oklahoma? It just screams he had to be spelled constantly doesn't it?

Career Records at University of Oklahoma
  • All-Time Leader in Points Scored (390)
  • All-Time Leader in Touchdowns (65)
  • All-Time Leader in All Purpose Yards (6,718)
  • All-Time Leader in Receiving Yards for a Running Back (1,571)
  • All-Time Leader in kickoff return average (27.58)

Felix who?

:muttley: Hilarious!

For the record, I agree with everyone else. A Sproles type role with 5-8 touches would be perfect for Felix.

His paycheck may require more of him. Not that I agree, but it is a business after all.

That's a good point, he is still on his rookie contract though so it ain't that much. He is contracted through next year, so we don't have to worry about paying him yet. If we cut his workload back right now, it would probably be better for us long term in trying to resign him later.

Its crazy Felix is only 24, while Murray is 23. Felix came in young, even though he looks 47. One thing to know is Felix is also young, just like Murray, and we can't forget that at all.
