One of the things that I hate and love about this board is the passion we fans have for the Cowboys whether we like something or we absolutely hate it. It is always a point to see how fans see things regardless if we know if it is true or not.
With the selection of Tyler Smith, I guess I am in the middle for now. Do I think we took him to high? Yes, although I haven't and none of us will ever see how Dallas truly rated him on their board. Did Dallas receive any calls to trade down? Have to think some team called wanting to move up the way the draft went but we will never know if they did and what the offer way. Probably no more than another 5th round pick if only a couple of spots and I believe there was no way Dallas was trading out of the 1st, just hasn't been their style in a while.
With Devin Lloyd and Jermiah Johnson on the board along with Linderbaum at #24, I was a bit shocked that one of them wasn't the pick. With Linderbaum, they had to be really happy with Biadasz or the short arms and less weight was really a factor for them. In Lloyd and Johnson, there had to be more to the story. Johnson seemed a fit at DE although every team passed on him or refused to trade up for him when every expert said he was the fourth best DE in the class. Has to be something everyone is missing. With Lloyd, I do believe that he failed over half of the league teams physicals and suspect he failed Dallas physical or else he seemed ripe for Dallas.
It was a crazy night with all the trades and where many players went. I was equally surprised at what Washington did in not taking a QB and with Philly getting played in not getting Jameson then backed into a corner into trading for AJ Brown and then giving him $100 million over 4 years with $58 million guaranteed. Brown is good, really good when he plays but he isn't a guy that usually goes out of his way to make the catch.
As to Tyler Smith, it seems they have the notion he is a bit like Larry Allen and we can only hope that he is. Still think they need to address the OL more the next two days along with WR and DL and LB. Guess the one thing that seems to be a good thing is that all the analysts and experts seem to believe the meat of this draft is in the 3rd through 5th rounds, so there is a bit of hope. Also with all but one QB still on the board just maybe a guy or two will fall that Dallas wants without having to move up to get him. We will see!
