If NYG beats CAR and we lose to Wash, then Min/NYG could be SNF.

BUT...

If Mia and Pit win and DEN loses we are met with an interesting scenario

If Balt and Den both win in wk 17 the Mia/Pit game will affect TWO teams fortunes.

A Mia win means Mia and Den makes it.

A Pit win means they and Balt make it.

In this scenario I would think it's impossible for the NFL to pass this up for SNF. We would be relegated to a 315 pm start time if we win this week, Noon if we lose and the Giants win.

I suspect at the very least we will be moved to the late game that day.

As for the night, that is fine with me, at least would know if in playoffs or not.

The worst for me would be the morning game as my son has hockey at 10:45 so I would have to PVR the game and watch it later.

One other thing, on Saturday the Cowboys Stadium is hosting the Cotton Bowl and they will need some time to change the field, restock suites and concessions, and get the place cleaned up before the game on Sunday.
Jerry maybe working to get it flexed for those reasons.

I'm surprised the game is still scheduled for noon/1 p.m. Sunday. Why wouldn't FOX move that to the 3 p.m./4 p.m. slot?

Say we lose to Wash and NYG beats Carolina.

Then regardless of our result it would be dependent on the Min/NYG outcome. Therefore you can have a noon game and a 315 game that both have potential implications and are compelling to watch.

If we beat Wash you flip the teams and the games are still compelling.

If it's not moved to the night, then it will almost certainly be moved to the late afternoon timeslot.

No one wants to see Curtis Painter vs Ryan Fitzpatrick on SNF.

Its going to be Dal/Phi

What if NJ is already eliminated and the SNF game is to see who hosts the WC game. Do they get fired up for that?

Mia/Pit is a very viable alternative.

Yep. As long as we win@Wash I am 99% sure it will have a 315pm start.

They just took Favre vs the eliminated Panthers for ratings.

Pitts a decent draw, but nothing draws like Dallas. Haters will be all over that game, Pitt doesnt have the same polarizing effect.

I hope I get to see Pitt/Mia at 4 though

Four team's playoff hopes on one game will trump that, trust me.

SD/DEN was the Sunday Night last game and we were 315pm. NBC has not had an AFC game since week 12.

Not impossible for DAL/PHI to be on SNF but it's close right now.

This is from the NFL website, it does not mention any of these rules that have been stated.

That's a superb find. Thanks.

Flexible Scheduling

Allows teams to play their way onto the Sunday night schedule

Last season, the NFL implemented for the first time in its history a primetime "flexible scheduling" element on Sundays in Weeks 10-15 and in Week 17.

Flexible scheduling ensured quality matchups on Sunday night in those weeks and gave surprise teams a chance to play their way onto primetime.

The 2007 NFL schedule will again utilize flexible scheduling in Weeks 11-17. The NBC Sunday night time slot for "flex" weeks will list the game tentatively scheduled for Sunday night.

Only Sunday afternoon games are eligible to be moved to Sunday night, in which case the tentatively scheduled Sunday night game will be moved to an afternoon start time. Flexible scheduling will not be applied to games airing on Thursday, Saturday or Monday nights.

Just as the six major college football conferences have done for many years, the NFL will have the flexibility to move the start times of games on Sundays, using a 12-day notice format.

For example, a game scheduled for a Sunday could move from a 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff to an 8:15 p.m. start, but the change would be made and announced no later than the prior Tuesday, 12 days prior.

The NFL has commonly moved games between 1:00 p.m. ET and 4:15 p.m. ET on Sunday afternoons, and the NFL now employs flexible scheduling to include one of its primetime packages of games - on Sunday evenings.

Sunday afternoon games, as in the past, can still be moved between 1:00 and 4:05 or 4:15 p.m. ET.

In Week 17, in order to ensure a Sunday night game with playoff implications, the decision to move the start time may be made on six days notice.

NFL Flexible Scheduling 101
  • Begins Sunday of Week 11
  • In effect during Weeks 11-17
  • Only Sunday afternoon games are subject to being moved into the Sunday night window.
  • The game that has been tentatively scheduled for Sunday night during flex weeks will be listed at 8:15 p.m. ET.
  • The majority of games on Sundays will be listed at 1:00 p.m. ET during flex weeks except for games played in Pacific or Mountain Time zones which will be listed at 4:05 or 4:15 p.m. ET.
  • No impact on Thursday, Saturday or Monday night games.
  • The NFL will decide (after consultation with CBS, FOX, NBC) and announce as early as possible the game being played at 8:15 p.m. ET. The announcement will come no later than 12 days prior to the game. The NFL may also announce games moving to 4:05 p.m. ET and 4:15 p.m. ET.
  • Week 17 start time changes could be decided on 6 days notice to ensure a game with playoff implications.
  • The NBC Sunday night time slot in "flex" weeks will list the game that has been tentatively scheduled for Sunday night.
  • Fans and ticket holders must be aware that NFL games in flex weeks are subject to change 12 days in advance (6 days in Week 17) and should plan accordingly.
  • NFL schedules all games.
  • Teams will be informed as soon as they are no longer under consideration or eligible for a move to Sunday night.
NBCSports.com pretty much confirms that as well:

Week 17, Jan. 3: TBD*Flexible scheduling

*Flexible scheduling

The season again will utilize "flexible scheduling," in Weeks 11-17.

In Weeks 11-16, the schedule lists the games tentatively set for "NBC Sunday Night Football." Only Sunday afternoon games are eligible to be moved to "Sunday Night Football," in which case the tentatively scheduled Sunday night game will be moved to an afternoon start time. Flexible scheduling will not be applied to games airing on Thursday, Saturday or Monday nights.

A flexible scheduling move will be announced at least 12 days before the game. For Week 17, the change will be announced no later than six days before the game. The schedule does not list a Sunday night game in Week 17, but an afternoon game with playoff implications will be moved to that time slot to conclude the season.

Flexible scheduling will ensure quality matchups on Sunday night in those weeks and give "surprise" teams a chance to play their way onto primetime.
