Leinart was very highly thought of during the year he was drafted. Hindsight is 20/20. It is easy to see why he failed now, but at that time, many teams would have loved to been in s position to draft him.

during the year, yes, but not during the scouting period. several teams that needed QBs passed on him for guys that did not work out. Houston passed on both Young and Leinart, but you can explain that since they took Mario Williams. New Orleans had Drew Brees and Tennessee took Vince Young, and while Young was a bust, you can understand that as well.

But, the Raiders, Bills and Lions all needed a QB and passed, because at that point scouts got an extended look at him and saw enough flaws in his game.

This clearly says that if you want to find a QB that will have the chops to start for you, you had better get him in the first or second round.

Yes, they could bust (see the final list), but odds are far more in your favor to hit there then to wait until later.

Thanks for taking the time to do this. Hopefully, it will sink in for some people.

You guys that want to draft a QB #4 overall and have them sit until Romo is done which could be 4 years from now don't have a clue. Wouldn't want to set sail with some of you. A 4-12 team can't afford to have a top 5 pick especially a QB who's going to get virtually no reps during the season standing on the sidelines for who knows how many seasons. You draft a player that can help us in 2016 primarily on defense and draft a QB in the second round or move back into the first round and take one.

The odds are clearly more favorable of landing a solid QB the earlier you draft one but they're going to have a difficult time developing into a solid QB standing on the sidelines for several seasons until Romo is done which is why you don't draft one in the top 5 if you're the Cowboys. You don't draft any player in the top 5 to be a backup you're looking for a cornerstone for your franchise at that spot who can start immediately and improve your team.

Nothing wrong with taking a QB in the second round or moving back into the first round and taking one. It's critical the Cowboys come up with an impact player with their top pick who can help them in 2016 if they want to have a chance to be a good team. We suffered through a miserable season in 2015 and the only consolation is the 4th overall pick and that player has to be on the field in 2016 if we want to have the chance to avoid another miserable season.

You have to get a QB at some point in the next 2 years max.

Using a top 5 pick is the best way to get one.

Even if he sits for 2-3 years that is a valuable backup to an oft injured Romo.

Teams can control 1st round picks for up to 6 years before FA.

We can take a QB this year in the second round or trade back into the first round read my posts! We don't need to use a top 5 pick on a QB who may never pan out and may be sitting for 2-4 years. Goff has missed games due to injury. I was listening to Daniel Jeremiah and Charles Davis talk about all the risk that was involved with him and Wentz due to the competition they played against. It's a tough evaluation with both trying to gage how their games will translate to the NFL. A top 5 QB isn't going to be happy standing around for several years you don't draft a QB that high to sit! A top 5 QB would not be a smart move for the Cowboys.

Your opinion of Goff isn't shared by most experts. They think QBs should sit for a year or two.

I didn't give my opinion of Goff can you not read??? The opinions vary on whether a talented college QB should sit for awhile some believe the best way to develop them is to play them immediately. Some of the best young QBs in the game today started as rookies such as Cam Newton, Andy Dalton and Russell Wilson. Both Mariota and Winston started as rookies and looked solid. Romo may have 4 years and there could be much better QB prospects available in 2-3 years. You don't take a QB in the top 5 especially if you're a 4-12 team to be a backup and sit for who knows how long. I'm not going to argue this all day!

That is an opinion on Goff chief

Sorry that comment had to do with a QB in general. The comment I gave about Goff missing games came from Danial Jeremah and Charles Davis they gave their opinions of him. I knew nothing about Goff's injury history or that he missed games until it was brought up.
