Finding Dickerson

What changed? They were bad at run D in 2014-15?

Couple of things:
  1. First off it's early and they haven't faced top rush offenses (Adrian Peterson was knocked out of the game against Green Bay)
  2. They've accumulated five 1st round picks in their front seven AND Mike Daniels who is one of the top 3-4 DEs in the game.

Zeke is now at 412 yards and I believe he will be the leading rusher in the NFL passing Crowell and Blount.

He is on pace for 1648. Not on the Dickerson pace, but given how he is improving every week, I would still hesitate to count him out.

i think Leary might give a bit of a boost on inside runs as I think he is better suited than Collins to get more push at the point of attack as opposed to pulling and mauling (Collins does this better imo)

Definetely...

No coincidence we have ran the ball better the last 2 weeks.

Update:
Ezekiel Elliott now has 546 yards rushing on 109 attempts. Averaging 5 yards per carry and increasing as he distances himself from week 1.

He now has three straight 100+ yard rushing games.

He is still short of Dickerson's pace however. He is on pace for 1747.2 yards, short of the 1808. But anyone can clearly see that if he continues to play like he is, stay healthy, and gets his touches, he will get on pace pretty quickly. He needs to average 114.7 yards a game for the remainder of the season.

This is very doable.

If we put Elliott's bad opening day game into perspective and compare it to Dickerson's worst game, Dickerson had a game where he only ran for 37 yards versus Elliotts 51. He also had one that only went for 64 yards, not significantly better than Elliott's.

If you take out that first game, Elliott is running on a pace of 123.75 yards per game or 1980 yards in a 16 game season. Yes, you heard it right, nearly on pace for 2000 yards.

The question for Elliott is can he have a big enough game somewhere to overcome that initial game that knocked him so badly off pace.

He has to increase his current pace, which is 109 per game. At that pace he would end up with 1744 yds on the season. Still a great season, a Cowboys rookie record, but not a NFL rookie record. He would be 2nd. Zeke needs 15 more rushing TDs in the last 11 games to tie the rookie record, 12 to surpass it.

Dickerson averaged 113 yds per game on his way to 1808 yds. He also holds the record for rookie TDs with 18.

I really hope not, but I would like to see him set the all time rookie record for the playoffs.

I have to admit, I didn't know what to expect with Zeke...but it's amazing that he may actually live up to the ridiculous expectations that were cast upon him after he was drafted.

464 yds needed for 100 yds, 3 games to reach 8 games. So he needs to average about 155 per game to get to 1000 at midpoint. He needs to average 2 TDs per game to get to 9 at midpoint (halfway to Dickerson's record of 18).

Hmm lets see Datone jones who doesn't even start or hardly plays, Nick perry who has 9 career sacks as a 1st round pick, Clark who has been a huge disappointment and doesn't even play so far this year. An aging peppers and a good player in Clay Matthews who has slowed down a lot these last 2 years. They are a decent front 7 but don't act like they've been drafting great. They haven't. Jones, perry, and Clark look like borderline busts.

We have the Browns on the schedule. That might be the game where he gets 200 yards.

It is no small task to break the Rookie rushing record. That being said, I think it is entirely too soon to discount him at this point.

I've seen some posts recently that really to me reflect a grand misunderstanding of who and what Ezekiel Elliott is.

I noticed this when people said they had a problem with him making the feeding gesture during the game. It told me that they never watched any of his game tape at Ohio State, where he did it throughout his career there. I also saw someone mention that he shouldn't have hurdled a defender and that he could have gotten more yards if he hadn't. That simply wasn't the case. He was going to be tackled short of the first down had he not hurdled, but it should also be mentioned that if you didn't know Zeke hurdles defenders, you didn't watch his tape.

It also strikes me that they don't know what kind of running back he is, which is why they didn't want to draft him in the first place. I saw someone mention that he doesn't break a ton of tackles. This is true and it is also misleading. Zeke was one of the highest ranked running backs in college football in yards after contact. Will he break a ton of open field tackles? Probably not, but that isn't his game.

Let me break down for you one of Zeke's best games in college football. His national championship game against Oregon, where he ran for 246 yards rushing and 4 touchdowns.

Zeke is a power back with a nice compliment of speed, agility, maneuverability, and vision. He is a 225 pound running back at 6'. That is 8 pounds more than Adrian Peterson at 6'1. That is 15 pounds more than Darren McFadden, and almost 20 pounds more than LeSean McCoy.

But back to Oregon... 246 yards rushing... He must have broken an extremely long run to get that, right? Wrong... His longest run of the night was 33 yards. Ezekiel Elliott's talent lies in his ability to continuously get first downs with a combination of his talents. He is a first down machine and he is a touchdown machine. This is what made him the 4th overall pick. This is what separates him from other running backs who have power but can only do short yardage, or only have speed and can't push the pile. He is an all-around running back. Can he hit home runs? Absolutely, and when we're able to spread out defenses again because of the passing game, you'll see him hit home runs, but that isn't his bread and butter. That isn't how he gets his yards. And while that might not excite you, that is how Ohio State won games, and that is how we won games in 2014.

Watch his game tape, you know who you are if you didn't. The dude is a beast.
I'd sum up your post like this..

Fed Your Inner Dickerson, Zeke.

We are all enjoying your infectious play.

As I suggested as we got further from his week 1 and 2 performances, he would get on pace with Dickerson. He is now outpacing Dickerson on pace for 1874. If Zeke gets his carries and stays healthy, I think he could hit 2000 at this rate.

If you take out his first two games, and set this pace he is on based on his last 4 games averaged out across the last 14 games of the season, and then add the first two games back in, he is on pace for 2125 yards. When I made this topic, this was about breaking Dickerson's rookie rushing record. Now? He might break his single-season rushing record...He needs 137.6 yards per game for the remaining 10 games of the season. Tall order? Certainly, but I think we all expect at least one or two 200 yard games for Zeke this year.... Perhaps against the Browns? Commanders? Lions?

Just unbelievable that we're even having these conversations.

Sundays game @ Cleveland sets up nicely for a huge day for Zeke. Poor defense...going back to his college home "base". I'm calling at least 150 yards which puts Zeke back on track.

I may be a tiny minority, but I don't give a hoot if Elliott breaks the record or not. Only interested in wins.
