Finding Dickerson

So much of it is opportunity. Granted, you have to be great, but most rookies just don't get the full workload.

Just an example, I think Chris Johnson went over 2000 in just his 2nd season, when they finally decided he was the man.
They had him splitting carries with LenDale White his first year.

Not just opportunity and talent but consistency. A couple bad games can really throw you off pace. If he can put together a couple 200 yard games he'll have significantly more breathing room than he has now.

Defenses can't stop Zeke. The only way they can hope to shut him down is to suspend him. Let's see, Josh Brown gets caught being a woman beater and no one says anything until the media catches wind of it and now they are all over Zeke like he killed a dozen babies.

If Zeke somehow gets suspended for something that happens before he was a Cowboy Jerry and Zeke (and the NFLPA) need to sue the **** out of the NFL.

Zeke was not property of the Dallas Cowboys when he got drafted. He wasn't a Cowboy u til he signed his contract.

UPDATE: Zeke now has 891 yards in 8 games or 111.375, which is good for 1782. At 1782 he is no longer on pace to catch Dickerson.

Don't get me wrong, it would be fun to watch him get the record, but this team has loftier goals than a rookie rushing record. Fwiw, Erick Dickerson had 115 yards combined in the two playoff games that season. 0 TDs as well

Players that fail drug test at the combine get suspended. I don't think Zeneca is guilty of domestic violence, but if he is, I'm fine with a suspension

I would have liked to have seen him stay on pace, but it was more important to protect him than run up stats. The odds are there will be a catch up game at some point where we need him and he will get 30 carries and possibly get back ahead of the curve

With 1005 yards rushing through 9 games, Elliott is on pace for 116.66 rushing yards per game or 1786.67 yards rushing. He is still off pace at this rate.

1102 yards through 10 games. This puts him on a pace of 110.2 yards per game. This brings him to 1763.2 yards.

He is still of pace. At this point, he is going to need a couple really big games to get back on pace. I'm starting to have reservations as to whether or not he can do it with the way he is being used. Could easily see him getting 10 carries a game in the last couple of games.

No way he breaks the record if we continue to win. We will rest him for the post season.

The way the Cowboys are rolling they could have homefield wrapped up with a couple of games left which means Zeke may be sitting, resting up for the playoffs.

Update: Elliott finds himself with 1,199 yards rushing after 11 games. This puts him well of pace for the rookie rushing record. He is on pace for 1744 with 109 yards per game.

At this rate, he will likely need a huge performance in one of the remaining games.

Fortunately for him he, we play the 20th, 21st, 22nd, and 25th ranked teams in yard per attempt. We also play the 5th ranked (but I believe he will be motivated to perform better against the Giants).

Zeke now needs 130.75 yards per game for the last four games in order to tie the rookie rushing record. Very tall order. Basically needs to keep pace for about 100 a game, and needs at least one 200 yard day.

We face the 5th ranked rush defense, 22nd, 15th, and 16th.

Doesn't help when his long runs get called back on penalties.

Honestly, I don't care about this as much as some Zoners. I am enjoying what Zeke is doing and looking forward to what he will do in the next four games and playoffs.

The refs aren't doing Zeke any favors with those 2 bogus holding penalties on runs 55 plus yards.

Those 110 or so yards would be huge right now. Some one needs to check Dickerson's bank account for cash withdrawals. :)

GB thanks for the effort you put into giving these updates. I would love to see Zeke break the rushing record, but he will need a good bounce going his way to get there.

I haven't done the math, but approximately how many yards per carry would he need averaging 20 carries per game the rest of the way and get the record.

Zeke has the ability to break the record pretty easily. I am just doubtful that he will get enough carries to get there.

I agree. He has really been "bent" on some of those recalled runs.

He's not going to quite get the record it doesn't look like.

But that doesn't matter. He'll have a monster rookie season and its been awesome, regardless.

Elliott has really helped put himself back in range the last couple of games. It's still a reach, but a couple of strong performances will nab him the rookie rushing record.

With 1551 yards rushing, he needs 258 yards over the next two games to get the record. That is 129 yards per game. Tall task, but it is doable.
