Wow, a lot of named calling (direct or indirect) by you in this thread.

According to you nobody can read or debate and all responses you don't like are Strawman arguments.

If you think somebody does not understand your point, you can't conceive that maybe you're not doing a very good job of making the point in the 1st place.

If the shoe fits, wear it. I've had to repeat myself to the same straw man arguments, so you'll get much of the same remarks.

Name one. Elite.

Not an on the street FA. Not a QB with injury concerns. Perfectly healthy and elite, in which a team gave up two first round picks as compensation.

Name one. One.

You've already had to qualify your argument...

If a franchise quarterback becomes available, you take him. You don't wait until your current quarterback retires before you look for another. That's reactive instead of proactive.

Again, you're missing the point. If you can't communicate with 20 different people, then the communication break-down is probably on your end.

And what of the people who came in here and had no issues?

You've already had to qualify your argument...

Don't dodge the question…answer it.

Name one.

Here's a hint: there isn't one.

You said, "And yeah, if you looked at the rate of getting an elite free agent QB versus drafting them in the 1st, you would see a higher success rate... again, math isn't your strong suit is it?"

So pony up and give me an example of your so-called success rate of getting an "elite" free agent QB.

I'll gladly give you examples of 1st round hits…Luck, Stafford, Ryan, Flacco, Roethlisberger, Rivers, etc.

Sure, when you factor in the busts, the success rate is rather low, but I don't care if it's 10%, my 10% beats your 0%.

So perhaps my math isn't so bad after all, proving yet again, that the Cowboys have a better shot at drafting a QB and hitting on one than they do of looking for your QB equivalent of the Yeti, Loch Ness monster or the Easter bunny.

Again, you can't qualify a question and then seriously expect to get a response.

You've had numerous elite qbs who have become free agents at various points in time.

Favre, Manning, Warner, Brees, Palmer, Cutler all became free agents or were traded during the Romo era.

Again... not sure why you're reading things and only seeing what you want to see.

I'm not saying to rely on UDFA or late rounds, I'm not saying to rely on a free agent pick up or a trade. I'm saying you have to keep all your options available to you, but the last thing you want to do is simply draft a quarterback in the first round and wish for the best. If a player you believe in comes along, draft him, but don't draft him just to draft him.

You've gone from "we shouldn't draft a QB until Romo is done" to "it's fine to draft a QB, but only draft one if you really like him, don't draft one just to draft one" in the span of a few pages. Impressive goal post moving.

You think I moved the goal post because you've assumed an assertion that I never made.

First you said...

"You draft a quarterback when you think Romo can't go anymore or you sign one in free agency."

Then you said...

"If a player you believe in comes along, draft him"

And those aren't mutually exclusive. I don't think you should draft a quarterback just because, but if you think they are legit like Luck, you go for it. The timing is also still important, and you want to time it based on his actual window, not a made up window that people like to make when they want to be pessimistic.

People wanted the Cowboys to draft a qb this year in the first, and are already saying they want a quarterback drafted next year in the first. Who are these QBs? That makes no sense. I said you want to keep your options open and not just draft a QB just to do it.

It is unwise, IMO, to forgo an opportunity to draft a QB if that opportunity presents itself. I know that the arguments exists that support the idea of using a 1st rd pick on a QB and there is some statistical data that supports that but honestly, I believe that this is more a result of how the modern NFL has worked and perhaps not as much of a talent based issue. You don't develop QBs anymore and most times, you draft a QB and he doesn't fit scheme or schemes change.

We, as a franchise, should be the first to be open to taking a guy and developing him. Three of the greatest players in Franchise history were QBs who were not taken in the 1st round. Roger Staubach, Danny White and Tony Romo are all examples of us not using a 1st round pick and developing a QB.

We are in a unique position, over the next few years. We may not need much in the way of starters. We are building a lot of talent and if we can manage our cap, we can be pretty darn good for awhile. Now is the time for us to seriously consider developing a QB. Most team that take a QB in the 1st round are bad teams. That's not us over the next few years. I think that the opportunity is there for a good smart QB who can be developed to step in and have a really good chance at success if we can find the right guy. This doesn't have to be a 1st round pick IMO but it could be. I think that we are going to be in a position in the next few drafts to try and trade up for a QB.

I also don't understand why the discussion around QB always comes back to winning a Super Bowl. I mean, it is obviously the goal but only one team wins a championship each year. If you really want to evaluate QBs you have to consider more then just Super Bowls. There is more to it then that if you are the Dallas Cowboys. It's a business and it's more then likely that Jerry is more interested in the financial aspects of it then the actual winning. I do believe he wants to win championships but he's got a lot of money invested in this team, particularly in the Stadium. Jerry will need to consider more then just that. We need to have a good QB but does that mean we can't draft a QB because if they don't win the Super Bowl, they have no value? I don't think that's realistic. As a fan, I do consider QBs successful, based on Super Bowls because I'm a fan. However, that's probably not the way Jerry looks at it. JMO.

Jeez, talk about your straw man..

Who here has EVER advocated drafting a QB "just because" ? I would think anyone that wants the Cowboys to draft a QB wants them to only do so if the team believes he can be a future franchise player.

I think this is exactly right. You keep your options open, but you don't get fixated on drafting just anyone in the first round. So many busts in the 1st round, but these people want us to just drop 1st round draft pick after 1st round draft pick trying to get a replacement.

My whole point is don't force it. Opportunities to develop a guy or sign a free agent come along over time, but if you do see the QB you want and Romo is near retirement, pull the trigger. I also like the idea of stacking up first round draft picks, to try and trade up for a guy who they think is special, or going after a franchised QB.
