All these messages ABOUT getting the message to Jerry Jones are so impractical.

The Dallas Cowboys are a highly visible franchise and that visibility to the world at-large is what's most important to Jerry Jones.

Billboards? Nah. Who's getting the message? Traffic and maybe a spot in a evening sports show segment.

Boycotting merchandise? Sure, how are you going to ever organize everyone to stop buying a certain amount of Cowboys goodies? Pipe dream.

Letters from protesters? Eventual destination: file thirteen also known as the trash can.

There's no definitive method, but there is a practical method which garners:
  • High visibility, which is guaranteed to be seen across the world every Sunday
  • Low expense, essential in these trying economic times
  • More symbolism. Letters and emails really don't mean much to someone if no one else of any real significance and influence can't motivate him to comply.
You want something that could work? The one thing that might do the trick?

Think Saints.

Paper Bags. That's right. Paper bags.
  • Persuading a bunch of stadium ticket buyers to wear bags over their heads even during a rout is more practical to assume than believing faceless folks in Texas won't buy the next Tony Romo jersey online.
  • Television cameras LOVE 'em. See one. Search for another one. Come back from commercial break and show a group of bagheads. Talk about public humiliation! And guess who would get constantly ragged about having fans who wear bags over there heads even during a GOOD game! Why it's Jerry Jones! Amazing.
  • The symbolism of fans (and it doesn't have to be a lot of them, mind you, since the cameras LOVE re-capturing "THAT GUY HAS A PAPER BAG ON HIS HEAD!!! LET'S SEE IT AGAIN!!! hardy har har!") willing to embarrass their team's owner and general manager in front of a guaranteed worldwide audience is worth millions. And that folks is the way to combat a supremely wealthy marketing genius like Jerry Jones.
Now, good luck. It may work, but if I'm at the game, you won't see me.

The cameras will be focused on the guys wearing the paper bags.

ME???

I ain't wearing no stinking paper bag. There's a game being played! Have YOU ever tried to drink something through a hole punched in a paper bag? Are you kidding??? Paper tasting beer??? Get real.

:)

The problem with that is the team Jerry has put together is actually pretty good.

I mean, the team had a winning record at 9-7. The paper bags for the Saints were when the team was winning 2 or 3 games every freaking year.

Any fan wearing a bag on their head when the team actually has a winning record is going to look like a complete dumb arse!!!

We were also 6-2 at home this year, and the losses came down to the wire. So how exactly are you going to be wearing a bag on your head when the team is actually winning the game???

Again, the score is 21-3 with Dallas beating the Skins and a fan is sitting there with a bag on his head. That fan is not getting a message across, he is looking like a complete dumb arse!!!

Paper bags only work when you suck, not when you post winning seasons every year.

No offense to you, I am just saying.

To my fellow fans,

I'm sick of the losing. If you're like me, you've lost all confidence in Jerry Jones as a general manager and absolutely cannot stomach another season with no playoff wins. It is because of this frustration that a few of us have launched...If you're ready for a change at the top, please drop on by and show your support by leaving a comment. I know JJ never give up control, but perhaps we can band together and make our silver & blue voices heard!

Go Cowboys!

and i'm sick of people calling for the owner to NOT have the right to do with his team what he wants. it's not gonna happen but people will whine away because it's all they can do really.

i may not care for jones as an owner but i've lived my life long enough to know it's his team, not mine. he plunked down the billions to do what he wants to do and he will. as a fan you really have 2 choices. deal with it or find another team.

option 3 of whine about the unchangable is really getting old. we may need a "useless vent zone" where people can call for the heads of all they want w/o having to clutter up the rest of the forums with their don quiote dreams.

I'd do a thread making a case for Jerry to remain the GM but the howling masses can't handle it.

It is possible the enterprise is just a waste of time, but it has the benefit of banking on one thing that I believe is a surety - Jones is a proud man. Now, a proud man may be stubborn and slow to change, even vainglorious. But it is that same trait that renders them very susceptible to one type of criticism - ridicule. Jerry wants to win, and win on his terms. But there is reason to believe that just as much as he wants to be seen winning it his way on his terms, he doesn't want to be universally derided as a clown. Additionally, the pressure being exerted isn't an utter damnation of the man and all he has done - he is fairly well regarded, by all, for his strive for the new stadium and willingness to spend money to the glory of the franchise. He has a safe, still shiny and well regarded space to retreat to - owner of the Cowboys. Jerry will, to my mind, not long tolerate negative universal public declamation. If he thinks he has become a public spectacle, it can move him. Just look at his hiring of Parcells - the constant losing and public angst moved him to give up much of his prior need for control.

Slushy, I mostly agree wit you.

But the thing is, we fans are the customers. We customers have the right to demand better service, better results and a better product.
That is what my inarticulate brethren here are calling for, though, god bless them, they say it the best way their east texas schooling has enabled them.
But they is right! We should demand the best, whether Jerra or the soon-to-be-out-of-business GM.

We buy the tickets, the jerseys and eat and drink the awful products Jerra urges us to.

So we are partners with jerra in a way.

Embrace the defeatism. You'd a been a godsend in 1776 or 1941. Funny how consumers scuttled "New Coke" but we (allegedly) can't convince one man to hire someone else. Where there's a will ...

oh i totally understand the desire to want that change, but you may as well not want the sun to come up tomorrow and stop getting so mad when it does.

even bad PR is PR. putting up a billboard slamming jones will excite the extreme crowd and just make the rest smile and move on with their day. in the end it will change nothing. the only way to hit jones is financially.

not emotionally.

till enough people stop buying his product, he won't change it.

go run and be free. annoy jones till you simply can't annoy him anymore. but he doesn't read this bbs as far as i know, so you're only annoying people who realize these windmills are not going anywhere.

now how productive is that in your dream, bb?

if you want change that badly go do it. it won't happen in here and judging from the replies, a grassroots movement isn't likely to happen here either.

and if i paid hundreds of millions of my dollars for something i'd NOT let some whiney fans tell me what to do with my property. would you? what has jones ever done or said to make someone think this would be possible?

again, if you want to change jones, then going after him would be a good place to start. whining in here is just whining.

Ryan, you can come out of the closet. We'll all know you're Stephen Jones. Stand up to your old man, bygum.

What's with you and windmills? That metaphor is kinda played out.

Beats me. We haven't even tried yet.

if you want change that badly go do it.

I am doing it. I've never attended a game and, aside from my niece's gift this Xmas, I don't buy their merchandise. My conscience is clean.

it won't happen in here and judging from the replies, a grassroots movement isn't likely to happen here either.

Big surprise. Now you know why DCC and other forums exist. This place is rife with Jerry collaborators.

and if i paid hundreds of millions of my dollars for something i'd NOT let some whiney fans tell me what to do with my property. would you? what has jones ever done or said to make someone think this would be possible?

Really? He can do anything he wants and you, the loyal fan, will stay mute because you don't own the keys? How lenient of you. Again, consumers who didn't own Coca Cola banded together to change a lackluster product. Why are the Cowboys immune to similar grassroots movements?

again, if you want to change jones, then going after him would be a good place to start. whining in here is just whining

you mean "FIRE JONES!" isn't? you quit giving me the same, i'll quit replying with the same.

great. then a billboard should do it. ya'll hook up offline and get 'er done THEN come tell us all about it. till then, it's a windmill.

I am doing it. I've never attended a game and, aside from my niece's gift this Xmas, I don't buy their merchandise. My conscience is clean.

i seldom attend games anyway. hate crowds and hate seats i cant fit in. good to see you on a way that may actually make a difference!

Big surprise. Now you know why DCC and other forums exist. This place is rife with Jerry collaborators.

it's rife with a lot of things, dude. like i've said, i know why people want that change and agree it would likely help. but it's not gonna happen. going WAH FIRE YOURSELF!!! in places jones never goes to is pretty useless. doing something like spending $7k for a billboard for a month may make the news and give warm fuzzies, but would be just as useless, only more expensive. but if that's your fun, have at it.

Really? He can do anything he wants and you, the loyal fan, will stay mute because you don't own the keys? How lenient of you. Again, consumers who didn't own Coca Cola banded together to change a lackluster product. Why are the Cowboys immune to similar grassroots movements?

another coke reference? glad only windmills is the one played out. it's also out there that coke did the entire thing as stunt to garner attention and never had any intention of NOT switching back. but sure, consumers did it. but even if consumer driven, why? cause it didn't sell. not because people whined and kept buying.

"Do nothing! Accept your fate! Know your place! Pray that things turn out for the best!" Is that what you're selling?

no. do whatever you wanna do. but if you want to be effective it will need to be a lot more than this and not just fan whine.

I prefer "Three Little Pigs" metaphors. For the moment, Jerry's made out of bricks. :(

That's weird. I bought the Nerf rockets for my nephew, who's a big Packers fan, but that's his dad's fault.
