But the entirety of it all is a cluster mess.

You hire a head coach, then he oversees the hiring of the rest of the staff.

Jerry castrated Wade by hiring Garrett and paying him the same amount of money. Now, he's castrated Garrett by stripping play-calling duties and dictating staff changes.

Eunuchs don't make good head coaches.
A cluster mess? I don't agree. Backfield substantially better. Wr's running better routes. O-line improved after columbo. Te's got involved late in season. Very much so. Predicting the future is iffy. Hindsight is pretty accurate.

This is exactly the thinking. Garrett gets a prove it year in 2019 and you're not going to attract top name assistants in that situation.

I actually agree. The Ginger clapper was a nice experiment for awhile but Jones is getting tired of his toy and will bring in someone else unless Garrett shocks the world and figures out how to advance further in a ridiculously stacked NFC.
Jerry needs a new boy toy?

Linehan was running Garrett's offense, not his own. Linehan HATES running the football. Ever.

Jerry is doing this delicately, but I think he's trying to gently escort Garrett out. He just gave him the official rope to hang himself.

Like you, I wish he'd just do it.

But Jerry is only comfortable with hiring a few head coaches. I think Payton and Riley both fit the bill.

Steven Jackson's career high in carries was with Linehan as HC and OC.

His carries in Linehan's other 2 seasons there were on s similar pace per game but he missed 4 games each of those seasons which kept the season totals down.

I think it's clear where Jerry and Stephen are going with this, and it makes perfect sense.

They are not going to extend Jason Garrett this offseason. That's smart.

That makes it nearly impossible to attract a sought-after offensive coordinator, and even harder to construct a coaching staff around a new scheme on such a short leash.

So, Garrett reclaims the play-calling duties with the young mind of Kellen Moore, whom Dak really likes and trusts, stepping into a pseudo offensive coordinator role. Garrett gets one more chance to earn his spot. It's pretty much Super Bowl or bust, or very close to that. He hopes.

Meanwhile, Jerry and Stephen wait.

Sean Payton has sons in Dallas and a history with the team. He remains close with the Joneses. The timing has never lined up, but the mutual interest seems logical and apparent.

Lincoln Riley resides up north and also converses with Jerry on a semi-regular basis. That relationship is blooming quickly.

The moment Brees retires, Payton will quit shortly after. If not for a horrible no-call yesterday, that Super Bowl might have been the swan song for both. Now, it's up in the air. Emotions are fresh.

Up north, Riley loves his current gig, which is a great one. Paved for him. However, the temptation of the NFL is strong and will likely overcome him sooner or later. That's the true proving ground.

So, there's a semi-standing offer for both Payton and Riley. It's dangling in front of both like a $10 million carrot.

Perhaps all they need to do is ask. First one to jump wins.

If there is in fact no extension, I can not only accept the proposed Garrett playcaller - Moore coordinator - Kitna QB coach structure, but I can respect it. If Garrett is going down, he deserves to go down swinging, his way.

But if an extension follows? Yeah, it's all trash and just more of the same old, same old, with zero accountability and a never-ending cycle of "wait 'til' next year!" until someone dies.

Lol.. always the eternal optimist . And you’ve basically have manufactured this scenario up to provide yourself more hope.

But Payton or Riley would receive all the credit if they had instant success?

Usually lame duck coaches never do well.

I just hate that next year is basically a waste because they refuse to identify the problems with their offense and they will bring in another puppet to run the same garbage Linehan was running.

Every year with a young Ezekiel Elliot is precious and a coach that's been here for 10+ years that can't get past the divisional round and a offense that gives us no advantages just makes this next season seem hopeless.

The fans are getting put through the ringer with Garrett and everyone knows that the coach isn't good enough to get us to a championship level.

Sean McVay doing what he has done as a 32 year old should've ended any debate about Garrett needing all this time to develop as a coach. He's just not good enough and doesn't under stand the importance of X's and O's modern day football.
Yea for us fans but Jerry doesn’t want someone coming in here stealing the thunder under him after all of these years. Remember he tried that with Jimmy and didn’t like it.

Yep .. some fans just can’t accept the Bar Jethro has set this era.

The crazy thing about being a Cowboys fan in the Jones era is we are supposed to somehow make sense out of their nonsense.
There is sense to made out of it. But fans ignore it on the most part wanting to believe it can’t be true even when the culprit spells it out for us.

Not extending Garrett makes it much more easy to attract a top notch OC because there is a much clearer path to the HC position.

Far from making it impossible.

Other than that I agree.

Given the opportunity why would they come to Dallas instead of another franchise or are we the only ones pursuing them?

So just to lay it out

1. I tell the OP that we become more desirable because our HC is on the last year of his deal, making his path to HC more clear
2. You reply to comment asking who I would want
3. I tell you two options
4. Then you ask me why we are a desirable option?

See how that looks?

Is there an ultimate goal to these questions?

I answered your question before even replying to you in my initial response to the OP that you quoted. As was just laid out for you.

I'll dictate where this goes, and this conversation is over.
