I didn't think the tackler's hand was actually inside the returners pads on that?? Its going to be such a joke of a rule.. well more so than it already is..

that was the only way he could have tackled him because of the stiff arm. that is just ridiculous.

I don't think the rule should be on kickoff returns in the first place. But yeah looked like the guy got all jersey so I don't see the problem. This is going to be another screw up by the nfl with poor judgement calls from the officials.

Was watching bears - miami and a guy just horsecollared the punt returner to bring him down and got flagged. Sad thing was that it was a good play and really the only angle the guy had. It wasn't anywhere near as fierce as Roy's because it was a db.

Seeing it called is just weird, at first I'm thinking wow, nice play.. then I'm like wait.. I guess you can't do that. Even worse the call is... Illegal tackle...which just sounds wrong.

I wasn't sure how I would feel about this penalty, but seeing it called in tis case, just didn't seem right to me.

Hey Hutchinson is actually looking like an nfl qb. He got good protection and when things broke down he got rid of the ball and he even sensed pressure on one play and showed elusiveness and then scrambled for yards.

My only hope is that this stupid new rule will p*ss of enough DCs and defensive players and even coaches and so many fans will complain that after this season they will get rid of this dumb rule.

Like Roy Williams said ---- we might as well just let them score.

its a horrible rule change the league thinks it is evolving but really it is only a few owners every year who lost something and whine untill there is a rule change made

Okay, so rather than tackling the guy by the collar, the would be tackler should let the guy run by him and gain 15 yards or more. Dumb rule. Most defenders would just take the 15 yard penalty and bring the guy down.

I predict this rule will be overturned. It's stupid and people will come to realize it.

it was only put into effect because it was a Dallas player who was "famous" for it.
and because the biggest "ME" player in the league supposedly fell victim to it. They make a rule to protect him and others from that kind of tackle and he embarasses his team and himself with his tantrums... Something tells me though that this rule was more "Anti-Cowboys" than "Pro-Terrell" though. If it was Lance Schulters or someone else that had taken him down with that tackle we wouldn't be talking about it right now.

Can anyone tell me when the penalty actually happened? I Tivo'd the game and don't want to search through the entire thing to see one play. It's really difficult to watch the Bears these days. :(

I saw that play and couldn't believe that it was called....what else was the guy supposed to do?

Maybe they should tell the ball-carrier if he doesn't want to get tackled that way, not to avoid the tackler.

That was just plain ridiculous.

They are going to have to adapt and overcome. Somehow. This is going to be an interesting rule.

Until they get rid of this dumb rule I will not change my sig. OK well I could change my sig if it is a clip of Drew Bledsoe throwing a game winning TD pass in the NFC Championship against the Eagles.

But really this rule has to get overturned. You have to wonder what is next. The Roy Williams big hit rule where it will be called unsportsman like conduct for layin out a big hit on someone.

Come on NFL this is football. Its a violent sport. Leave it that way and get ridda the dumb rules.
