Remind me again why we didn't have a pick in 2009? I think we traded down, right?

Probably the best DE to play in this tampa 2 was simeon rice. He was 259 at the combine. Go figure

Rice actually played in the 250s in college, also. Barr is an inch taller, played in the 240s, and added nearly 10 lbs. for the combine. You can't act like that doesn't account for anything. Barr has a lankier frame and doesn't have much strength at all for a DL. There's no way to know how he'll project as a full-time 4-3 DE.
Theres no wat to project anybody from the draft until they play. He added the weight and still ran very good. Clowney only did 21 reps at the bench press. and he;s 11lbs heavier and always been a DE. People that they dont know if Barr can play DE. Clearly have never seen a UCLA game. Barr rushed the QB standing up and with his hand on the group. And have production from both spots. Obviously he played more from LB because thats the defensive base. But he did rush with his hand on the ground. And ill point out that its easier making the switch from LB to DE. As you take away the pass coverage aspect.
Like i've said you can always get stronger with work. You cannot coach speed and thats what Barr has alot of.
I fear Jerry thinks Barr is another Ware, and he still gloats about that pick versus Spears.
Donald is the better player right now. Barr is more of a project because he's never played defensive line in his life. He was recruited to play tailback at UCLA.
I laugh when people talk about Barr being a project. You dont have the success he has had in the 2 yrs he;s played defense if youre a project. He dominated.
My feeling is that Barr will be our pick. Freakish athlete, fits the approximate size of a DE that Marinelli and Kiffin would like. We also went after center last year after going thru 6 different centers due to injury. It signals to me that we will try and address positions where there were rampant injuries the year before. Here's how I picked them since 2002. My picks are in parantheses:
2002: Roy Williams (Roy Williams)
2003: Terence Newman (Terence Newman)
2004: Trade down to 2nd round (Steven Jackson)
2005: DeMarcus Ware & Marcus Spears (DeMarcus Ware & Marcus Spears)
2006: Bobby Carpenter (Bobby Carpenter)
2007: Anthony Spencer (Anthony Spencer)
2008: Felix Jones & Mike Jenkins (Dominique Rogers-Cromartie & Felix Jones)
2009: no pick
2010: Dez Bryant (Dez Bryant)
2011: Tyron Smith (Tyron Smith)
2012: Morris Claiborne (Mark Barron)
2013: Travis Frederick (Eric Reid)
So my accuracy rate has been very good, although I've struggled a bit in the Jason Garrett era.

His lower bowdy speaks for itself. He could need to get a little stronger n top. But this defense dont beat teams with strength. Its designed to beat you off the snap. Why do people on this forum dismiss everything these coaches say about what they look for in defensive linemen?
They look for speed. You can always get stronger. But you cant teach speed. These coaches will always choose the guy who can beat you off the snap over the run first guy. If you listen to these coaches you understand what they want and look for. If you dont you live a life of hated picks or confusion on what the Cowboys arent doing to satisfy what you think they need.
When did the coaches say this? I missed it. Could you paste a link so i could hear it too? That way I can be better informed, going forward, about what our coaches look for.
