Fisher = Henson to be dumped

In the old days, teams would rely on solid backups like Steve Young,Steve Bono in San Fran, or Frank Reich in Buffalo or Steve Beurlein, Bernie Kosar in Dallas. Now days teams are stuck with 3rd, 4th and 5th stringers as the number 2 guy.

Do you think everyone just suddenly got stupid or do you suppose the salary cap might have something to do with that?

I doubt they dump him too. It would be too logical. I like Romo, but he is clearly a 3rd stringer. We definitely need a vet who can back up Bledsoe or replace him if he falters, if we're serious about going to the playoffs this year or next year. I had hoped that Parcells would have a positive influence on Jones with regard to good decision-making. Now it seems we're going in reverse. That's what that recent article about the sad state of NFL backup qbs' was talking about. Even teams like the Colts are taking huge risks with crappy backups. Hmmm, teams that had high cap tied up in vet back ups all fell into cap hell and had no QB in the wings to replace their starter when they retired.

Teams that followed the Ron Wolf approach of grooming young QBs and drafting or aquiring a developmental guy every couple of years have thrived.

Go figure.

It was just reported on ESPN Radio that Bill Parcells has talked Jackie Slater into coming out of retirement.


It was also reported that the reason LT hasn't shown up at cowboys practice yet is cuz he's currently training to get ready for a comeback... with the Dallas Cowboys.

I would agree except for one thing...

If this team turns out to be good... playoff good I mean... and Bledsoe goes down, I don't have confidence in either young guy to drive the bus yet.

If we're serious about playoffs this year, then maybe the braintrust thinks we need a legit backup. And if we bring one in, then SOMEONE has to go.

what veteran QB do you suggest we bring in? Romo may be young, but the only QBs left on the market will do just about as much as he would...
