I would say that the new defensive coordinator , would be someone who would be promised the head coaching position .
I wouldn't.

Jerry's not the kind of person who goes that far out on the limb. Nor should he. But even if he did, Stephen would almost certainly have talked him out of it anyway.

Whoa. I'd be all over that.

And I have to wonder if Carroll didn't accept the demotion on the basis of the thinking that his old buddy Quinn would be the new guy... and now, that not being the case, maybe??? Maybe he's up to other opportunities???
It would be wild for sure. Regardless you can’t go backwards from DQ if your plan is to really go all in for the final year.

Also, if they wanted Joe Whitt as the DC they could have already done that.

We all know one thing about Jerry Jones he'll make this decision shortly but he won't announce it till Super Bowl Sunday, he will find one way or the other to get the Cowboys being talked about on Super Bowl Sunday...

I have no idea who's that's gonna be what a swing for the fences and a home run would be at defensive coordinator but more than likely it will be a name people recognize with the possibility of being the next head coach I guess

Isn't that exactly what he did with Garrett?
Point well-taken. But is he happy with that decision in hindsight? Or did it reinforce his clear tendency otherwise to resist getting ahead of skis... I mean, criticize whatever you want to criticize, but Jerry these days clearly doesn't over-commit... eg, has no interest in speaking about extensions unless he's actually serious about it.

Since when, last year? Last week?

You're gonna have to back up that statement posed as a question.

To the contrary... he resists committing to extend any running backs... committing to extend coaches, including the current head one... but Dak?... yes, he said that was coming, and turns out, it was...

He tiptoes... I'l grant you that. But that's not committing. That's suggesting what could happen, but ultimately being non-committal.

lol, what? I'm literally asking you to back up your statement, and you responded by saying he resists committing to extending running backs? As if Zeke wasn't costing like $6 million against the cap this year? If Pollard would have balled out, he would have gotten an extension too.

And just because he hasn't extended McCarthy (even though he extended Garrett and is about to give a long term deal to his choice of DC), I mean, so what?? Is there an actual point here, or are you just pulling things out of your butt to defend Jerry?

Buckle up, because this whole offseason and next season are going to be one dysfunctional circus. Just accept it. Let the waves of drama-filled mediocrity wash over you.

I don’t believe any home runs are out there. Singles and doubles maybe.

This is why it hurt when Quinn left so late. Everything was dried up
It reminds of when Big Bill waited so long to retire that year and what did we end up with?…….

Silly... of the two of us, I seem to be the only one supporting his conclusion with some evidence. But I'm the bad guy... hehe.

Look. I'm all for holding people... Jerry in this case, but anyone ever... accountable for what the evidence says they're actually guilty of saying or doing.

What I see people like you do is paint with overly-broad brushes. You don't like a person, and so anything/everything that can be said negative about the person is automatically assumed to be merited.

This is not merited. And unless/until you bring some actual substance to support your conclusion, I'm not compelled to continue the dialogue... but have at it... I'm very happy to acknowledge when someone offers a solid counterpoint (... see this very thread).

What are you actually even talking about? I didn't make a conclusion, I asked you when this brave new reality started happening. And you couldn't back it up.

You conveniently left out all of the long term extensions like *nine months ago* that now have them over the cap to the point where they can't extend anyone else. But Jerry's changed, guys! This time it's real! Promise!

If all you're going to do is lie and be ridiculous, then I'm not going to waste my time with you.
