It's going to be boring failed retread Rivera or boring failed retread Zimmer. Either one will set this franchise back several years and get fired in less than 3 years.
I mean yeah boring but honestly, I fear they could and will do worse than those two.

Frankly, at the end of the day I am not sure it matters who they hire. The issue holding this franchise back (beyond Jerry himself) is not the DC. It's the OC/HC and QB IMO.

Could definitely see them convincing Vrabel to come with the wink, wink agreement if McCarthy crashes and burns, Vrabel can slide into the HC spot.
Like a self-fulfilling prophecy. Maybe Garrett can come in to consult on this part?

It’s Mike Fisher but interesting comment from another NFL owner.

FRISCO - Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones vows that his organization is "all in'' toward trying to win big in 2024. And he has at least one high-powered and high-profile colleague who believes him - at least when it comes to Dallas' search for a new defensive coordinator to replace Dan Quinn.

"Watch him,'' a fellow NFL owner tells CowboysSI.com on the condition of anonymity. "Jerry wants a home-run hire. He's swinging for the fences here.''

Knowing Fisher's style... the "NFL Owner" is probably some random fan who bought one share of Green Bay Packers stock when they were sold for $300 each back in 2022.

A guy who hires Dave Campo as HC isn’t capable of a “homerun” hire. Jerry will bring in some retread like Zimmer and think he’s out smarted every other GM.

That is what it is going to take ,to bring in a coach that will be asked to be this years defensive coordinator.

I didn't make a conclusion
Since when, last year? Last week?

We're done. You phrased your statement as a question, but while the conclusion may have been implied, it nonetheless is/was implied very clearly.

If you refuse to ascend to even that much authenticity in your comments, I won't be the fool to engage you any further. But wish you well, and have a nice life.

So we're just ignoring multi-year contract extensions for Terrence Steele, Michael Gallup, Donovan Wilson, Malik Hooker, Trevon Diggs, etc.?

Cool. Anything is possible when you lie, I guess.

The problem is, Jerry thinks someone like Rivera is a "home run" hire.

He doesn't see Rivera as the Head Coach with a below 500 record and years of not being competitive. He sees a guy with 13 years of head coach experience willing to come be the DC.

Just like he didn’t see a McCarthy as a guy who was God awful his last two years in Green Bay and who had completely lost the locker room.

Just like he doesn't view the last 28 years of ineptness as an issue. If you ask him about it, he will still fall back on Super Bowls from three decades ago or his overrated stadium as some sort of evidence of modern success.

I can't. To me, that's a popular take that is overly simplistic and conspiratorial.

1. They're not in a position of needing to convince anyone. It's the Cowboys. It's one of the most glamorous positions in the league for a DC, period, ever. If you want to go be a TV guy, do that, but if you want to coach, you can hardly choose a better place than to get to coach legitimate DPoY candidates... plural.

2. Of the former HCs in the pool, Vrabel might not even be the strongest HC candidate... so even if that were the premise, and it's not, there are others more likely who would be ahead in that line.

3. If they were so down on McCarthy, he'd already have been let go. The premise, logically, is not "how do we get the best McCarthy replacement," but "how do we hire the DC most likely to help us win so much that McCarthy keeps his job?"

Yes we are. You win. I'm wrong. Enjoy your day.
