Someone should ask Kiffin if he is prepared to guarantee scoring points every week on defense under that scenario.

We are on borrowed time with Romo not landing on IR behind this OL.

Fix the OL and we can compete at least.

The defense is going to be bad anyway. I can already hear the transition excuses. The offense is going to have to save them if there's any shot of being decent this year.

You know I cant argue one word of this.

Regarding Vaccarro, throwing multiple high picks and cap dollars in the secondary with a suspect pass rush is the recipe for 8-8.

You don't think Kiffin and Marinelli know the importance of a safety in Their defense?

I just can't fathom how anyone can feel confident going into the season with Barry Church, who is coming off an Achilles injury, and Matt Johnson, who has never took a snap in the NFL, as our starting safeties. Considering how important safeties are in the Tampa 2, I'm extremely worried about safety position.

Don't get me wrong, I definitely would rather see Warmack/Cooper or Richardson or another defensive lineman fall to us and we pick them instead of Vaccaro. But if those guys are gone and Vaccaro is still on the board, I would have no problem seeing him get selected. But I'm pretty sure most people would rather see Sylvester Williams, which is understandable. I just feel like safety is a bigger need and Vaccaro would improve that position immediately.

My problem with Vacarro is that he is not a playmaker and i worry about his fit in Kiffin's defense.

I really do like Vaccaro as a player. He is really tough and aggressive and loves to hit... unlike many U of T players.

I imagine that Kiffin would make a star out of the guy.

I just like Richardson more.

Can't go wrong with either player IMO. I'm really starting to think that Vaccaro is going to be the pick the closer draft time comes.

I agree. I also think Kiffin and Marinelli know what they need in their defense. And it is their defense that they have been put in charge of making the switch to the 4-3

I will be really upset if we don't draft OL in one of the first two picks.

Good point. Kiffin is the godfather of this defense and I would think he knows a lot more about it than us fans do. Even though the defensive line can use more work, I feel more comfortable with Spencer and Ware rushing the passer rather than Church and Johnson roaming around in the secondary. JMO.

I'm pretty confident if we don't get Cooper/Warmack in the first, they will pick an OL in the second round.

That's exactly right. I don't see the point in investing such a high pick into the secondary, especially for a player who I don't really think fits our needs. I've tried to go back on this a few times; maybe someone could help sell me on the idea.

I think right now, our best bet to fix this team is to fix the offensive line and the running game. I don't really see much that can be done on defense by adding a 1st round safety who doesn't fit perfectly. I think we can actually get safeties later in the draft who probably fit better, while improving our team else where.

These are our needs as I see them.

1. Guard
2. Center
3. Safety
4. Right Tackle
5. Running Back
---------------------
6. Defensive Tackle
7. Wide Receiver
8. Defensive End
9. Tight End

Needs 1-4 need to be addressed in the first 4 rounds. Tackle can be found in free agency with Eric Winston or Tyson Clabo. We also might be able to get a Center in the 5th or 6th round. So this is more about Guard, Safety, and Running Back.

The last four moves are more about luxuries. Could we sneak someone in, certainly but these are second tier needs right now.

One name I think we're targeting in the second if no DL in the first is Kawann Short. Classic underachiever.

this. this. this.

throw out Warmack and Cooper too, this draft is so fat guy heavy you can still get quality in the later rounds. If Richardson is gone give me Vaccaro, if not then Richardson.

If I hire a man to come in and do the job then let him have a say in who we should get. He knows his defense he knows his scheme. I have no doubt him and Marinelli have viewed many hours of tape of the current players on defense and where they feel they need to up grade. That is not to say Vaccaro is the only guy they like I'm sure there are others they feel would be a good fit.

A large part of who we get really depends on the one thing no one here even knows and that is who is on the board at 18, people sit there guessing and that is all well and good but we don't know

That being said if we're at 18 and he is the best player available, obviously we should draft him. I'm hoping that there are some better players left at that point.

I wouldn't mind it if he even had a couple more interceptions or had played a little more deep coverage. I think Cyprien and Thomas both have better instincts. The draft profile I watched of him on youtube showed him biting on an underneath route and a wide receiver running right by for a wide open touchdown.

........I've only seen a little film on him and he COULD work out but.....I am just in love with the idea of rebuilding the OLine and Dlines...same old story every spring: they won't do it because they are dolts.:bang2:

Well we drafted Tyron Smith two years ago. Let's hope that the money given to Romo and the 31st rank rushing offense inspires us to do the right thing tonight.

So we are going to march the same oline out come week 1 against the Giants?

Wow.

I get why people are so desperate to select an offensive lineman in the first round, but if Cooper/Warmack are gone and none of those tackles don't drop, the last thing you want to do is draft for need. I'm a BPA guy, so I have a different mentality about it, but if those offensive linemen are gone and Richardson and those other defensive linemen are gone, then you either trade back (which is more likely) or take the BPA. Drafting for need, in my opinion, is just not the way to go.

Wow.

Calm down. Have you forgotten that Winston, Moore and Clabo are still out there in free agency? I can guarantee you that we will not be marching out the same offensive line from last year this season. There is no way that will happen.
