That's exactly right. I don't see the point in investing such a high pick into the secondary, especially for a player who I don't really think fits our needs. I've tried to go back on this a few times; maybe someone could help sell me on the idea.

I think right now, our best bet to fix this team is to fix the offensive line and the running game. I don't really see much that can be done on defense by adding a 1st round safety who doesn't fit perfectly. I think we can actually get safeties later in the draft who probably fit better, while improving our team else where.

These are our needs as I see them.

1. Guard
2. Center
3. Safety
4. Right Tackle
5. Running Back
---------------------
6. Defensive Tackle
7. Wide Receiver
8. Defensive End
9. Tight End

Needs 1-4 need to be addressed in the first 4 rounds. Tackle can be found in free agency with Eric Winston or Tyson Clabo. We also might be able to get a Center in the 5th or 6th round. So this is more about Guard, Safety, and Running Back.

The last four moves are more about luxuries. Could we sneak someone in, certainly but these are second tier needs right now.

How do you know who "fits perfectly" and who doesn't?

You don't....you may think you do, but you don't. You have not seen this defense play yet so it would be impossible to say that you know what the team needs?

I wouldn't mind it if he even had a couple more interceptions or had played a little more deep coverage. I think Cyprien and Thomas both have better instincts. The draft profile I watched of him on youtube showed him biting on an underneath route and a wide receiver running right by for a wide open touchdown.

Wow, that has never happened in a football game. Strange...I guess there has to be a first sometime.

The point that they were trying to making was that his instincts weren't very good and they used that play as an example.

It seemed like it happened to us a lot last year.

It happens all the time. Just because someone posted a yutube vid of a bad play is certainly not indicative of how he always plays.

Football is not static, it is a dynamic game that depends on lots of moving parts.

Evidently all these scouts and publication did not watch that utube video. :lmao:

I can't say what kind of Pro Vaccaro will be but then I can't say for sure how any of these prospects will be at the next level. I do know they view these players over a period of time and study them closely and there is a consensus he is the best safety out there.

I don't think they are saying that for the heck of it.

Is there a College type Madden game out there? Maybe our posters got their consensus from some game?

I think if we can't get a guard, safety is the best pick for us and would have the biggest impact outside of say a top RB or something.

No kidding! Evidently people don't remember how bad the safety position was with McCray and company back there.

He looks solid. At 18 tough to hope for much more than that. If he's a 6-8 year starter we made a good pick. I think a safety would have more impact than a DT (which have high bust rates and unless they are freaks take a while to mature).

We'd see an even bigger impact from a top OL prospect but that's it. No DEs out there are going to do it.

The analysis was from ESPN Scouts Inc. and NFL.com. I'm assuming they reached that conclusion from more than just one play.

Well, bro. There is your answer. If you want to listen to those fools, be my guest. But, there are people living in Finland that know more than those dolts!

Most of the reviews I've read have said the same thing. This one is from CBS:

"Hasn't shown the consistency as ballhawk considering his hype, recording only five interceptions in 51 career games. "

Plenty of good safeties should be available after the first round though. So do you like Vacarro enough to not wait?

Neither was Troy Polamalu coming out of college. He only had 6 interceptions coming out of school and he was drafted in the same area where Vaccaro is projected to go. Polamalu developed his playmaking skills as he developed more in the NFL and there's definitely a possibility Vaccaro can do the same. I'm not saying he will, but it's a likely possibility Vaccaro will work on them.

Can't forget that Vaccaro didn't have to opportunities that other guys did in this class to make plays on the ball because of the scheme ran in Texas this season.

I will say that I trust Kiffin. I am confused with this thread though and that tweet. Did Kiffin say he wanted Vacarro round 1? All I read was he was "weighing in" on the idea.

If Kiffin likes Vaccaro enough then I am not going to argue with him; he's a very, very smart guy.

Well, to be honest with you, I have no idea who he is or how he plays. But, that does not tell the whole story about any player coming out of college.

Was he on a good team, a bad team? What was he taught to do? Who trained/coached him? What scheme did he play in? Who did he play against? Who were his teammates and were they playing their best football?

See, bro, there are too many tangibles/variables that go into the equation when trying to predict/project what a player is capable of doing.

Again, as I have stated many times, football like every other TEAM sport is dynamic, not static.

;)

It's hard not to be really happy about having this guy around Valley Ranch.
