But not Iowa Coach, want to make sure there is no confusion.I've always liked Iowa State Coach.
Yea, I think it's possible he stays as HC, but I can't imagine he stays there as a DC after being the interim HC. That would be a really awkward dynamic I think.I like him as well. Not sure if Atl keeps him in some capacity though. Guy has been one of their only bright spots in a disappointing season
That was my original thought process, but since Edwards has been here, he's part of the problem. It's absolutely going to be #1.
McCarthy doesn't want to fire any more of his friends and Edwards is the path of least resistance. Jerry will also call Zimmer and Zimmer will recommend him.
If you bring in a guy like Fangio or Wade, they will probably want to bring in their secondary coach, DL coach, or LB coach which means McCarthy will have to fire more of his buddies.
Remember he ok'd that special teams draft. Can't have another Marinelli given power choosing terrible players that set the team back.I'm not discounting his experience but let's not bring in Wade Phillips.
He said some things as head coach that would concern me if he were DC.
Not the culture or vibe I would want in Dallas.
You want more of a hybrid scheme, those coaches would fit if they run more of a traditional 4-3 that we ran under Marinelli. My top 3
1) Fangio (won't be available)
2) Patricia
3) Wade
I'm not sure what Quinn, Richard and Smith are doing on the list.
I hope McCarthy gets to choose.

Give me Edwards, if we will truly be a 4 man DLine and more importantly, a one gap scheme that suits our DTs and DEs to play fast and aggressive. Please no more 2 gap system of read and react.........that doesn't fit our personel.Just saw a podcast with Mike Fisher speculating the top DC's to replace Mike Nolan with:
1-George Edwards-believes he is the heavy favorite as Jerry with call Zimmer about him.
2-Marvin Lewis-found out there is a Pitt connection with him and MM, both on the staff together in the 90's
3-Vic Fangio-Fisher said he wanted him to interview for the GB DC job in the past.
4-Matt Patrica-he runs a similar hybrid scheme that MM likes
5-Dan Quinn-from the Seattle coaching tree, similar to the Marinelli Defense
6-Wade Phillips-connection with the Jones Family, former HC. 3-4 DC
7-Iowa State Coach
8-Kris Richard
9-Rahiem Morris-interim HC with Atlanta
10-Lovie Smith-runs the Tampa 2, Marinelli was his DC with Chicago
Bonus-Sean Lee

If they hire Patricia, Dallas area pencil sales will go up 300%
Thoughts about some of the candidates:
-Edwards-originally thought be would be the #1 target, but he has to take some of the blame being here. He also was more of a game planner under Zimmer and never called the defense.
-Marvin Lewis-he is my #1 choice as he has run the 4-3, 3-4 and a hybrid scheme. Will have the ability to bring in a quality staff and is firmiliar with the college prospects.
I would take either but probably prefer Marvin Lewis. I don't blame Edwards for the problems this year because A) a lot of it is on the pandemic and the players not getting the reps to put in the new scheme and B) The Scheme. I think Edwards is making tactical decisions in a bad scheme right now, while the scheme is the responsibility of the DC. If the strategy is bad, its a lost cause from the start.
