FITZGERALD EXTENDS HIS DEAL
According to an announcement posted on what appears to be his personal web site, Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald has agreed to a four-year, $40 million contract with the team.
Fitzgerald's site says that he'll get $30 million guaranteed, and $33 million over the next three years.
He had been scheduled to earn more than $14 million in salary in 2008 and more than $17 million in salary in 2009 based on eight-figure escalators for which he qualified based on his performance during the first four years of his career.
The deal also supposedly contains a clause that permits Fitzgerald to block any trade without his consent (which protects him from being traded to one of the really bad franchises . . . like the one he currently plays for).

Wow, why would he do this? It doesn't make any sense for Fitz. If he played out the contract he would get $32 million over 2 years and then hit the FA bonanza in 2010 which is a potential uncapped year with deep pockets like JJ and Snyder bidding for his services.

*points and laughs at Philly*

30 mil guaranteed and a no-trade clause are plenty of reason to do this for Fitzgerald.

Yeah, glad to see the Eagles didn't get him.

Would have given the division another contender.

Another worn out discussion thread (Fitz to the Cowboys) retired for good. :D

Now let's make that McFadden deal a reality!! :lombardi:

The way they treat players in Philly (both the fans and the front office), I can see why no one would want to go there.

this is an excellent good deal for him, and he is not in our division

Anyone know what this does for Arizona's Cap Space?

Freed up nearly 5 million for them this season which they were in desperate need of.

Good for the Cards and even better now that Philly can't get their paws on him. :)

Instead.... we get to see Donovan do his karoake version of "The Platters big hit - The Great Pretender"

Oh-oh, yes I'm the great pretender
Pretending that I'm doing well
My need is such I pretend too much
I'm lonely but no one can tell

Oh-oh, yes I'm the great pretender
Adrift in a world of my own
I've played the game but to my real shame

Too real is this feeling of make-believe

Yes, I'm the great pretender
Just laughin' and gay like a clown
I seem to be what I'm not, you see

Just laughin' and gay like a clown
I seem to be what I'm not, you see

What about Assante Samuel?

Maybe he struck a deal so they can now trade him to a team he wants to play for...

He must have actually wanted to stay with the Cardinals. He was guaranteed damn near $30M in the next two years rather than the next three if he hadn't restructured his contract. Then he could have signed for $12-14M a year with $50M guaranteed in two years!

John Clayton said on Mike & Mike that the Cardinals had about $400K in salary cap space and they were desperate for Fitzgerald to restructure a more cap-friendly contract. This still doesn't look very cap-friendly to me, even if $30 million is guaranteed.
