I remember both of those useless debates and when Manning and Leaf got drafted in 1998, the media just fawned over Leaf beating Manning in a irrelevant bowl game and there were even talk that Leaf was the better QB and would have a better NFL career than Manning and I almost fell out of my chair in laughter we know how that turned out.
Leaf did not face Manning in a bowl game.
I think any support of Leaf at the time was only due to Peyton Manning fatigue. Manning got a lot of coverage at the time. Many thought he would go pro after the 1996 season and be the top pick in the 1997 NFL draft. Instead he came back for his senior season in 1997. I think all the constant coverage made a few people resent him or at least got tired of him. To be different this minority of people hyped up one year wonder Ryan Leaf.
