I remember both of those useless debates and when Manning and Leaf got drafted in 1998, the media just fawned over Leaf beating Manning in a irrelevant bowl game and there were even talk that Leaf was the better QB and would have a better NFL career than Manning and I almost fell out of my chair in laughter we know how that turned out.

Leaf did not face Manning in a bowl game.

I think any support of Leaf at the time was only due to Peyton Manning fatigue. Manning got a lot of coverage at the time. Many thought he would go pro after the 1996 season and be the top pick in the 1997 NFL draft. Instead he came back for his senior season in 1997. I think all the constant coverage made a few people resent him or at least got tired of him. To be different this minority of people hyped up one year wonder Ryan Leaf.

Yes Manning did get a lot of coverage at that time and you're correct about Leaf being a one year wonder at that time. I watched and I know you did too both QBs that year while Leaf, had better arm talent he didn't have the intangibles that Manning had plus he had a 10 cent brain to boot once he got into the NFL as for the bowl game I really thought they played against each other well thanks for the correction.

It worked out for the best the Cowboys got a #1, #2 and #3 in return and one of those picks ended up being Emmitt. Had they had the #1 overall pick in 1990 they would have ended up with Blair Thomas who Jimmy had rated ahead of Emmitt. What a disaster that would have been.

Did the New Orleans pick end up being a pick we used for Emmitt? I thought that was the Vikings pick we used to take Emmitt (the pick we used to jump ahead of Atlanta into Pittsburg's spot).

Nevermind: I saw the update and your subsequent response.

Yes it was the New Orleans pic that was used on Emmitt. I got 89 and 90 mixed up thinking we traded Walsh in 89 which screwed up the entire sequence on how Emmitt became a Cowboy.

No, it was a trade of the Vikings first round pick from the Herschel Walker trade and a third rounder acquired from San Francisco in the Daniel Stubbs/Terrence Flagler trade in exchange for the Steelers first round pick. The Cowboys didn't have a pick from the Saints until the 1991 Draft, as Walsh was traded in September of 1990.

It was the Vikings pick I'm bouncing between too many things right now.

It was the Vikings pick which is what I meant to say not the New Orleans pick.
