I don't want this to become a "he sucks" thread, just a simple question:

In the event the Cowboys decide to release Flozell Adams after this season in order to move Doug Free to Left Tackle, what would be Adams' cap hit?

Thanks.

The thing is you're flying under the assumption that Free is suited to play LT as well as he is RT. I love Free, but I don't think this is the case. If anything, I'd say Columbo would be a LT candidate.

$8.67 million, I believe. That's based on the assumption that his base salaries in 2008 and 2009 were guaranteed.

Is this opposite day? Your left hand is the one that forms the "L".

That seems to be the popular idea going around. I disagree with it though. I'm not sure either player is suited for LT. Both seem to be RTs to me.

Actually, it's the right. That is, if someone else is looking at it. ;)

Free is your textbook left tackle.

Didn't Free play left tackle last year in pre-season? If i remember correctly he didn't look good at all.

At this time I would not be looking to eat Flo cap hit I would just as soon keep him here and know we have good depth than to let him go and be back to questioning our depth at tackle

He's played left tackle in preseason for several years and has looked really good every year.

I tend to agree with this.

Make your case. I'm listening.
Athletic, quick feet, yet good size. He was nicknamed Doug "Freak" in college because he's so athletic. He's not a mauler that you'd want at right tackle. Free has always been a left tackle candidate. He wasn't our swing tackle for a year because they didn't think he was suited for right tackle. Since McQ could play both, he played the swing tackle position.

Look at every scouting report ever made on Free. He's a left tackle, not a right tackle. This is obvious.

So he's versatile, at least. I can roll with that.

There's no way Colombo is a LT. He would be a giant liability. He's the prototype RT who has 2-3 years left. Free is more suited to play LT. He's much more athletic and has more upside.

I was thinking about his size and strength, but I really don't know their ability to play both sides. Apparently, according to theogt, Free plays LT and RT, so we shall see.

By the way, I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Miles Austin didn't look good in preseason two years ago.

Romo apparently didn't look good in preseason a while back.

I'd like to keep Adams as depth also, but in today's NFL, you just can't let a guy with that cap number sit on the bench.

And you're probably going to have the situation where another young tackle is going to be drafted– early.

I truly think that Flozell's days as a Cowboy are numbered.

The only thing that may help his cause is accepting a lower salary for 2010.

The other thing to keep in mind is that he may just retire– I would not be surprised if that happened.
