It was great to see the Cowboys back in action; however, I immediately remember some of the things that irritate me about football.

1. The announcers/networks don't give the preseason games and the players on the field ANY respect. That's disrespectful to the fans also. They just blabber on about old players and other issues while completely ignoring the game for long stretches. They do interviews that interfere with watching the game.

There are sports channels where they have all the time in the world to do those interviews.

2. The Fans/Media over-reactions and incredible displays of ignorance. Taco's a bust, Moore can't play QB, Heath sucks, somebody else sucks after playing 1/4 of a preseason game, the Cowboys have failed, blah blah blah.. It's one game where the starters didn't play and the rookies don't have veterans on the field with them to help them. Most players are not going to look great in this type of game.

Good point about the announcers. They were barely mixing in actual game commentary between interviews and general NFL talk. It seems to be a problem every preseason. I got frustrated after the first quarter and found an online audio stream from KJXJ 103.9. Muted the TV and used the computer for sound. It was much better listening to the Babe and Brad Sham.

To be fair to Al Michaels, Chris and Michele, what more could they do in this game? They had to talk to inductees, who were more important than the actual game. I thought they did a very good job.

I think it is reasonable to expect to see Taco flash enough to see glimpses of why they took him in the 1st. We haven't seen that so far.

NBC normally does an hour of pre-game coverage. They could do interviews then.

Many fans thought the Cowboys should have drafted Merriman instead of Ware. There was constant talk about that during Ware's first training camp.

Why do the least informed fans/media seem to have the most extreme opinions about players.

Does being emphatic that a player sucks somehow convince those people that their opinion has value?

People often lack self awareness. I don't understand it. I know that my knowledge of impressionist art work is near zero. Why would I ever have a strong opinion on the subject?

Yeah, I remember that...seems like the talk continued for a few years and then Merriman pretty much disappeared.

All valid points bit I still maintain Heath Sucks.

They even have name for it (if you assume that feelings of certainlty leads to being emphatic about it).

Announcers are nothing more than average fans. Most average fans feel they are too good for the nuts and bolts of the game. This is for the fan who wants to see past the flashes and game reels.

Fan overreaction? ExcuuuUUUSSSe me, but my math says the Cowboys are the only undefeated team in the NFL. Super Bowl bound!

Yep, as I posted after the game in the game thread....1-0, 23 more wins to go.

It's the first preseason game of the year. You're damned if you do or damned if you don't. Just sit back and enjoy the game for what it's worth which is very little, especially this game.

I think it is reasonable to expect to see Taco flash enough to see glimpses of why they took him in the 1st. We haven't seen that so far.

Can't tell from TC from the viewpoints they show, and how much do the reporters really see. The only only one that said he seen it was Willie McGinnist, and he even said the few practices after Collins beat Taco on every play / drill. That Taco came back and had a good day against Collins.

What did Taco play, 16 plays Thursday night. I'll hold off judgment on 16 plays, that what did we really see. Did every one on here criticizing Taco go back and watch each play, for what they can see in slow motion to give a biased opinion even if they did?

Rod, saying what he said, heck wouldn't you as a coach say the same thing. To get someone a little more motivated. Maybe he said it to get fans riled up on here. Who in the heck knows.

I will wait for his next 16 plays for each of the next few games. No, probably not unreasonable to ask to see some glimpses at all, I understand that. But he shouldn't be written off either.

I stopped taking the NFL and football seriously at all after Steratore and Blandino nullified Dez Bryant's catch in Green Bay in their successful attempt to get a Packers-Seahawks NFC Championship Game.

I think a lot of you guys would be well-served to do the same. As much as we love our Cowboys, it's just not that serious.

Can't argue against this.
