Football is Back - Good and Bad

Can't argue against this.

It's made watching and following the Boys much more enjoyable, honestly. It also helped (bad word choice?) that Romo got hurt again the following year, making every game a preseason game with Weeden and Cassel at the helm.

The first time that Jerry only had a single game winning season, the Cowboys came away with Troy Aikman. After a four win season, the Cowboys walked away with both Zeke Elliott and Dak Prescott.

Negative. After the 1 and 15 season, the Cowboys came away with Steve Walsh in the supplemental draft. Aikman was on the team when it went 1 and 15.

I stopped taking the NFL and football seriously at all after Steratore and Blandino nullified Dez Bryant's catch in Green Bay in their successful attempt to get a Packers-Seahawks NFC Championship Game.

I think a lot of you guys would be well-served to do the same. As much as we love our Cowboys, it's just not that serious.

Fake Sport. The last real game occurred in the early 90s somewhere and its been a simple march for the almighty dollar ever since.

The NFL is just a business now. Much like Amazon. Or McDonalds.

And was the first draft pick, for losing, for Dallas under the first draft for Jerry Jones. My point. By the way, Steve Walsh came in the Supplemental Draft...not Jerry's first draft.

The Offensive Coordinator changed following the addition of Steve Walsh, as did Walsh depart. In the acquired directions.

My point, to be exact, was that losing brought in a franchise quarterback...as did a losing season bring even a higher level with Elliott and Prescott.

Care to add what effect that Norv Turner added then, and Scott Linehan presents now?

I think that the record of the Cowboys in 1988, was 3-13. Jerry's first season, they went 1-15.

So the draft comparisons would be with 3 wins and 4 win seasons, respectively in drafting comparison to 2016.

It was great to see the Cowboys back in action; however, I immediately remember some of the things that irritate me about football.

1. The announcers/networks don't give the preseason games and the players on the field ANY respect. That's disrespectful to the fans also. They just blabber on about old players and other issues while completely ignoring the game for long stretches. They do interviews that interfere with watching the game.

There are sports channels where they have all the time in the world to do those interviews.

2. The Fans/Media over-reactions and incredible displays of ignorance. Taco's a bust, Moore can't play QB, Heath sucks, somebody else sucks after playing 1/4 of a preseason game, the Cowboys have failed, blah blah blah.. It's one game where the starters didn't play and the rookies don't have veterans on the field with them to help them. Most players are not going to look great in this type of game.

I don't mind in-game interviews, just don't show it to me. Keep the camera on the game so I can watch it. Also, please show replays of quality plays.....they totally forgot to replay the gathers catch and run.

The best preseason broadcasts from the perspective of the hard core Cowboys fan are the broadcasts done by the Cowboys themselves. The network have a broader audience in mind (i.e. the casual fan or the football fan who is not a fan of either team). In the case of the Hall of Fame game, you just have to accept that they are going to spend a lot of time interviewing the inductees.

Good point about the announcers. They were barely mixing in actual game commentary between interviews and general NFL talk. It seems to be a problem every preseason. I got frustrated after the first quarter and found an online audio stream from KJXJ 103.9. Muted the TV and used the computer for sound. It was much better listening to the Babe and Brad Sham.
Gave you your first like....you owe me (1)

Welcome to the board bro

You have to remember, fans bail on preaeason games usually 30 minutes in. I know I do when watching anybody but the Cowboys. Couldn't care less about the battle for backup guard in Chicago.

And this was the Hall of Fame game, which is more about inductions than the game anyway.

Plus, both teams sat their starters. What is the network supposed to do with that?

The draft coverage has always run me nuts. Too much rehashing early picks and ignoring late picks

To your first point, it's called the Hall of Fame game. The whole point is to honor those guys so of course they do interviews during the game. The average fan doesn't care about 4th string guys therefore I don't expect Al and Cris to study up on them too extensively. They are trying to appeal to the broader audience. I wholeheartedly agree with your second point.

Why do the least informed fans/media seem to have the most extreme opinions about players.

Does being emphatic that a player sucks somehow convince those people that their opinion has value?

People often lack self awareness. I don't understand it. I know that my knowledge of impressionist art work is near zero. Why would I ever have a strong opinion on the subject?
When someone lacks knowledge on a subject then the argument from the most emotional presenter sways most people. Because people aren't that bright as a rule.

I know the history. I'm the one that corrected you. Jerry's first losing season didn't bring in Aikman or a franchise QB, unless that's what you consider Walsh. Aikman was drafted after Jerry bought the team.

And Norv came in in 1991after Walsh was traded to the Saints, so you'd be wrong again. I don't know what point you're trying to make but if it's "losing brought a franchise QB," I'm assuming due the poor record and high draft position, you'd be wrong.

I could understand if it only happened during the HOF game, but it will happen with the other preseason games as well. It will actually get worse when the broadcasts are done by the local media.

If the inductee was not associated with one of the teams that are playing, are their fans really watching anyway?

:hammer:

I can mute the sound or turn on the radio broadcast.
