We don't need a tackle in the draft, people. We already have an abundance of young tackles on the team. We need a VETERAN tackle. I have no desire to sit through another season of watching a young tackle develop while Drew Bledsoe picks himself up off the turf week after week.

We need to take the BPA (at a position of need). If Ko Simpson is who that player is, so be it.

Wouldn't mind Bobby Carpenter at that spot either. He IS worth that pick.

Good Veteran tackles are not let go by their teams. If they are that ususally means their best playing days are behind them. If Marcus McNeil, Winston Justice, Eric Winston, or Jonathan Scott are there, the boys must take them at the 18th pick. However if they are gone, then I agree BPA. I thought Carpenter was a bad character guy, am I wrong?

yep good post about OT's. Teams just dont let good tackles go. Very rarely is there a good tackle who is actually allowed to test FA that isn't old. Runyan is case in point. He's probably the best FA tackle available, but do we want another old retread like Rivera that can blow up in our faces again? I sure dont.

ick. a FS at #18. no way. if that is what is on the board, then I would move down -- If 4 OTs fly off the board before we pick then there is no way we should take #5. these guys just aren't top 25 talent.

I think if Lendale White has a very good workout he will move into the top ten , ala Ronnie Brown.....

If he falls to us and the draft looks like what is posted , I would have to consider it.....
I know we have some depth at that position , but he could be that special player.......
I like Julius and I like MB3 , but I am not married to them....

We would have to trade Jones for a second round pick if we get White. Maybe if this scenario unfold we could trade Juluis for a young Olineman such as Kalif Barnes or Chris Snee. White is more a Parcells type back.

I agree White is more of a Parcell's type back...
I dont know what Julius trade value would be , but it would be an interesting dialema...

What type of RB is a parcells type back? He's said he likes elusive RBs.

That said, I'd have to consider White at #18 as well. But would prefer a trade down if he were on the board. Or there may be a better player then him anyway. We could go the BPA route (for the most part) since there aren't many positions on the team that can't use an upgrade. Except for tackle. I want a Vet tackle. I don't want to sit through a tackles growing pains another season. Plus I do believe Petitti has potential. It would help him to learn from a vet.

If we pick in the first rd we will NOT get a QB, RB, C, SS, K,P, G, CB, TE, DE
So that leaves OT, WR, DT, LB, FS. BPA of those 5 is where we probably will go. We could also trade down for more picks.
Those 5 positions are what we need most in most peoples eyes. I would put WR as last on the list. OT first for OBVIOUS reasons.
BUT all this DEPENDS on what we do in FA. BP will do his best to get a vet to take care of OT- the rookies/young players this year just had to take a toll on him. Columbo will be watched very carefully this spring- but I still see him as backup. Pettiti will be looked at hard as well to see if substantial improvement is likely. That will go far to determine how hard BP looks in FA.
ALso making sure that Flo is rehabbing well. IF- IF- those areas look good then maybe OT is a FA. IF NOT- then the need in the draft rises.
FS clearly was a nasty spot all season long. Davis ain't the guy and no one else really looks all that good. FA there would be great- but- a top Draft choice is possible. Picking at #18 makes that more likely. We need a COVERAGE safety- not a whole lot of them worth a 1st.
LB- maybe- especially an inside guy. Burnett will have an impact on the LB need- how they evaluate him will go a long way.
A mean nasty NT would be nice to have- but there are not many that are worth a first and the one that are will probably be gone.
IF I had to gamble right now I would say LB is the most likely IF we do not trade down.

This would be a horrible draft if it worked out that way.

not exactly, we could make up for it and get a RT like Andrew Whitworth in the 2nd, and Kai Parham in the 3rd

Mel Kiper had Santonio Holmes listed at 16 on his top 100. If he's there should we take him. I think so.

naw, take Pitt WR Greg Lee on the 2nd day

Rack, what happened to you? I agree with everything you're saying now :D

and can you imagine the knee-jerkers, and what they would do when that OT we take in teh 1st struggles like all rookie OTs do? scary

idk about that, w/ the salary cap, teams cant afford to keep promising lineman who don't pan out under their contracts

wasn't Julius a Parcells' draft pick, and didnt he compare him to Curtis Martin, Parcells' favorite player?

Exactly. Did any of these people watch Alex Barron (drafted #19 in the last draft) played this year? In the last game of the season he was still getting ran over by guys about 100 lbs lighter then him.

And now they want a tackle with injury concerns? Like we didn't get enough of that with Jacob Rogers?

Clueless. Absolutely clueless.

And that's exactly why I asked "What kind of back is a Parcells back anyway?".

Parcells likes to have a "thumper" on the team, but he prefers the elusive RBs.

Marion Barber is that "thumper", and JJ is the elusive one, and people still debate whether to take another RB :lmao:

What is it with these "pass rushing DTs"??? Isn't a DT in a 3-4 defense called a Nose Tackle? I don't know of too many NTs with double digit sack totals. Unless these guys calling for this are talking about moving them over to the DE spot. If so, why not call them "pass rushing DEs"?

I'm so confused..........

lol some people dont understand the 3-4. the last thing we need is an undersized pass rushing DT. Even if they were planning to move to DE that position is already set and then some for us.
