For 2023 to be a success, the Cowboys must reach the NFCGC

With Rodgers gone, absolutely. With the NFC this weak, there's no excuse unless Dak goes down.

I thought last year was the year Dak was playing to keep his job. The bar just keeps moving. Now we hear about this new offense that's supposed to help Dak out.
Do you people realize that if Dak just played like a top 10 QB Dallas would of beaten the 49ers and Kellen Moore would of still had a job here. The Cowboys fired the wrong guy!

Hell, we all expect the Super Bowl but I am not firing my coach and bringing a new QB after losing an NFCCG.........no team/owner/GM would do that, it's silly.

Speak for yourself. bro.

Anyone "expecting Super Bowl" with any of the Cowboys rosters of the past 25 years is a fool. Not even in one of those years have we had a top-tier-HC, top-tier-QB, great-defense combination. Not once. That's the Super Bowl formula.

Getting to the playoffs merely puts the Cowboys as one team of twelve... 92% probability of failure.

With his contract, he was never playing for his job last year....they have to keep him for at least this year and probably have to extend to get cap hits to a reasonable number no matter what....

Yeah those cap hits are going to be brutal if the don't extend him. I think they are checkmated into extended him. They are caught in a vicious cycle with his contract.

We're ticking off the possible reasons:
OC
WR room (adding two slot receiving threats)
RB room (inc blocking)
Run-Defense
CB2

Yeah man it's tough....personally I'd say don't extend, play out this year and then take the risk of a big contract extension...in the end I don't think the number changes a ton unless he gets us to the superbowl which will likely mean he's worth the extension and big bucks...but the alternative is if he gets extended now and then suvks were in trouble for a long time.

Yep, with $60m+ CAP to add from the existing contract and the $29m salary he's owed in 2024 (which I'd bet France will want incorporated as an extra in the contract), then the CAP hit (unless we do a Hurts, and pay Dak until 2030 as a 37 year old) is going to be steep from near enough year 1.
Can we afford it, sure, but we'll be filling the roster with a lot of JAG's (rather than the 'weapons', which virtually everybody agrees Dak requires).

I agree, In theory.. to me, just play like a team that belongs in the mix with the top teams and don't put a crap-show performance out there like the SF game.

My bar is low for this dysfunctional ownership and toxic atmosphere . This is not the same championship caliber and well respected franchise many of us grew to love .

I’m just hoping for 17 meaningful games . I’m amazed anytime these frikin egotistical idiots field a team good enough to make the playoffs. .

A lot of SB or bust fans on the site. 27 years can starve a fan I guess me personally while I’d love a SB run and root for it I certainly don’t expect it

Im certainly not gonna be up in arms if they don’t fire mccarthy with failure to meet that threshold . I won’t be upset if Dak is extended unless he regressed further and it’s clear he’s the issue

Thus far I don’t see that although last year I put a lot blame on him but there are other factors to consider

I don’t expect him to do Brady and Mahomes magic because he don’t have that skill set .

The team is gonna have to figure a way to get over that San Fran hurdle I don’t care if they score 0 in the first half and recovers in second just find a way

And if they don’t oh well I’ll flip the channel and lose no sleep

Why? Because they've not been there in so long?

They were no better than the 3rd or 4th NFC team last season and I do not see where the teams ahead of them have declined and the Cowboys improved. It's all on paper.

Do we believe this draft was really that good or is there too much self-selling of these players starting with the 1st pick?

Let's start with the Cowboys replaced the scapegoat OC with one that has stated he wants to run the ball more and only had two 1st ballot HOF QBs, both adept at improv offense, in his previous job.

I think if the Cowboys can remain the 3rd best team in the NFC, they've had a good season.

Each year theyve been to the playoffs besides 2021 they shouldve gotten to the superbowl imo

2007 shouldve been a SB
2009 if they wouldve shown up vs the Vikes wouldve been a SB
2014 - this year speaks for itself
2016 shouldve gotten there if not for Aaron pulling a play out his butt
2018 - smh....
2022 - if dak plays average football we beat the 49ers and we beat the eagles
In 2007, 2014, and 2016 they were legitimately the best team in the NFC in my opinion. Those were very disappointing playoff flameouts.

Making it to the NFC Championship game USED to be expected. Anything less was a bad season.

But now too many here are just happy to make the playoffs.

Bunch of losers.
Are you a winner because you retain lofty expectations for the Cowboys?

USED to be was a hell of a long time ago.

Would I rather be in the playoffs than out of them, even if that means not getting past the divisional round? Hell yes, I will have invested some 68 hours of my life watching them play in hopes they can extend those 68 hours.

They may have been the 3rd best team but there was not exactly a massive gulf between them and the 49ers and Eagles. Take out a Dak pick or two and they were likely to enter a championship round matchup with Philly that would have been anyone’s game.

Dallas has won 24 regular season games over the last 2 years. That means they are a very good team. Expecting an NFCCG appearance (especially considering that the roster is at least marginally better this year) is not unreasonable.
