We know what Irvin was, were pretty sure of what Dez is, with the understanding he can still get a little better. For each category, all you have to put is Dez or Irvin for who you felt was better. Let's play.

Categories:

Hands- Tie
Heart- Tie
Speed- Dez
Strength- Dez
Jump Ball- Dez
Run Blocking- ??
Harder to tackle- Dez
Routes- Irvin
Football Intelligence- Irvin
Leadership - Irvin for now
Spectacular Play - Dez

These are just my opinions. I saw the tail end of Irvin's career and may be biased to Dez, but I have heard Irvin say several times on TV admit Dez is the supererior talent of the two.

Irvin was more consistent (Clutch).

I don't think I could call it a tie for "Heart". Irvin was the Heart and Soul of those Super Bowl teams. He had a profound influence on the entire roster including the Super Stars like Emmitt and Aikman. I don't know that Dez is in that category.

I don't think Dez is stronger.

Irvin is better all time but if Dez continues his pace he'll be knocking on the playmakers door, even Irvin himself has said he wishes he could've done some of the stuff Dez does from a physical standpoint.

Dez has 15 lbs on Irvin. Definitely stronger.

I think if Dez remains as committed to the game as Irvin was then the sky is the limits for Dez. It is difficult to compare a player still early on in his career to a man who has already accomplished his goals and is a member of the NFL HOF.

The weights listed by NFL teams are rarely accurate.

Irvin is listed at 6-2, 207 on the nfl.com website.

Terrance Williams is listed at 6-2, 208.

There is no way that I believe that Williams plays at a heavier weight than Irvin or that he is even within 5 pounds of Irvin's playing weight.

Kind of like that other thread......

Irvin(Hakeem) > Dez(Duncan)

If you gave me a choice of 5-7 years of prime Dream vs prime Duncan, I'm taking Dream and not thinking twice. And I think Duncan is a top10-12 player of all-time.

The Irvin-Dez comparison is tough because one career is complete while Dez has just entered his prime years. This is a better question 5 years down the road.

I can say, (because I'm old and saw it) Irvin was double teamed most of his career and regularly beat it. But because those teams ran so well, his opportunities were not as plentiful.

And he schooled Deion once or twice to when they left Deion on him one on one..

And don't forget how he brutalized Darrell Green!

Love Dez but as of now not as Clutch as Irvin.
Mike

Dez

Wow... He was such a great player/cowboy. Now, I don't meant "great" the way people just throw the word around these days.

Things of note with Irvin.

1. Early on before they were even good he said, "the current situation is temporary" we will be champions. He didn't just say it. He knew it. He wasn't going to settle for less than title. I believed him.

2. He epitomized the way to be cowboy. Heat and soul and fire and amped-up-ed-ness ( I don't care about his off the field stuff)

3. I see now that that ray Lewis stole his strut out if the locker room lol

4. He was almost nonchalant in his play. I forgot how he easily slipped past aggressive defenses after the catch.

5. Harper thew pass to Irvin I Iove it.

6. Long and Lanky... Big strides... A bit of a super freak in his own right.

7. I think he would walk through Helmand back for Troy....

"All the worlds a stage... He played his part"..... Very well

Mike was special. I went to every camp at St. Edwards in Austin and each day as it was getting towards the end of each practice you could hear Irvin hollering at guys telling them "This is the 4th qrt" knowing guys were tired and exhausted yet knowing that is the part where you have to dig down deep inside to get over the last hurdle and game day it is the same, it is when you are near spent that you must dig a little deeper to finish.
