For Fun: Dez vs Irvin

Just curious how the age line breaks along the Dez over Irvin line. In other words how many who are firmky entrenched in the Dez is better group are too young to have seen Irvin play?

Not a put down. But with every comparison between individuals now and on the SB teams of the 90's, there seems to be a schism along the lines of age, for the most part.

Irvin was more consistent (Clutch).

I don't think I could call it a tie for "Heart". Irvin was the Heart and Soul of those Super Bowl teams. He had a profound influence on the entire roster including the Super Stars like Emmitt and Aikman. I don't know that Dez is in that category.

I don't think Dez is stronger.

irvin would be called for so many off PIs in todays game its not even funny. Dez would be the best WR in the game in that era. Dez would be what AZ thought they were getting with David boston coming out of Ohio State

So you're saying Dez is better than Jerry Rice...

Very possible. I'm 39 so I remember the 90's Cowboys.

No way. Irvin was one of the strongest receivers ever to play. He outworked corners and would man handle them.

I don't know what to tell you. Dez is a heavier man. More athletic and unless you don't think Dez's muscles translate directly to his strength you'd have to objectively conclude he's stronger.

They both have a great passion for the game, of course.
Dez can jump higher and can high point a ball better
Irvin runs more routes, way better routes, and was more physical.

You're basically saying that Dez is the greatest WR of all time. That seems a bit homerish.

sso ur saying if dez played in that era as big and athletic that is its out of the question? i know what rice did, but ur saying dez couldnt?

And that is Michael at age what? 47?

The weights listed by NFL teams are rarely accurate.

Irvin is listed at 6-2, 207 on the nfl.com website.

Terrance Williams is listed at 6-2, 208.

There is no way that I believe that Williams plays at a heavier weight than Irvin or that he is even within 5 pounds of Irvin's playing weight.

I can easily believe Williams is within 5 lbs of Irvin's playing weight. Irvin was a very strong receiver, but he didn't have a monster build. I'm not saying he was small, either.

My new categories:
Swag- Irvin
MJ type finisher- Irvin
Iron-Man - Irvin
Feared more - Irvin
1 on 1 Battles - Dez
Fearless - Irvin

Dez hasn't played down the middle as much as Irvin did in his defense!

What are the qualifications for Iron-Man? Irvin played in 83% of the possible games of his career. Dez has played in 93%.

Did Dez play in the decade when Safeties took pride in beheading WR's with no yellow confetti? Irvin played fearless & took his hits & got up & shook it off! I think this qualifies as " Iron-Man"...

Irvin by a country mile. He was an incredible student of the game, and he held the entire team accountable. He knew every position's responsibilities much like a quarterback or playcalling safety or middle linebacker.

Dez is an incredible athlete that absolutely loves the game as Irvin did. But he doesn't command the respect of an entire locker room like Irvin.

Watching the Irvin video I could not help but to laugh at all the body catches he made. lol

He made a lot body catches but no one ever makes a big deal about it with him because he was so productive and didn't have stretches where he disappeared.

Irvin played at 212 I've heard him say that so there's hardly any difference in their size both being listed at 6' 2". About 2 years ago Dez weighed in at training camp at 214 with 4.5% body fat.
