Get back to me if that happens...

You don't know that the Cowboys didn't put in a bid for him... obviously, if they did, it wasn't as good a pick as the Bungles' third rounder was...

Then you weren't paying attention back then, or now...

give it a season,

You're right I don't know, that's why I said I "suspect". LB was a position we were pretty concerned about this offseason and all the way right up to about the 2nd game, when Ellis found that he could play well at OLB. Brooks was a player at UVA with Ray Lewis-like potential. He was proto-typical 3-4 LB and had the size and ability that a guy like BP LOVES. If Groh would've told BP to go get him, I think we would've at least been willing to part with a 3rd, maybe even a 2nd. We just blew a 1st on a LB with less talent and a 3rd rounder on a mostly speculatory DE in Hatcher. Why not a 2nd or 3rd on a 3-4 LB that could probably come in and play immediately and make an impact? Without Brooks' off-field problems, he wasn't a big gamble, but apparently he had some issues and I'm sure Groh and BP had a few discussions about him.

Well, anyone doubting his talent is fooling themselves.

Brooks had academic problems and pot issues in college. He never beat anybody up, never stole anything, NEVER RECEIVED A DUI, never molested anyone, never had sex with minors, never badmouthed his coaches or teammates and never violated any law or caused problems for his team other than by smoking pot and not being on the field. The only trouble Ahmad Brooks caused at the University of Virginia was for himself.

Well Hell. He would never make it as a Dallas Cowboy then! :p: ;) :D

There were those who tried to tell us he'd never amount to squat, but here he is, in the starting lineup before his rookie season is even half over, and he had a pretty good game for himself in his first start...

IIRC, YOU were one of the ones insisting he'd never be worth a hammered crap...

Of course, you've raised being wrong to an art form...

Aw, I don't really mean that, it was just a good line for the situation... LOL...

He was starting due to thurman bein suspened and three LBs out for injury.

Ok, cool he can play. Cincy decided to take a chance, but could he have cracked the starting lineup here??

Not if Parcells is coaching. The risk that it might happen again is probably why he's not a Cowboy. It doesn't keep me up at night. :D

Which doesn't change the fact that he played well...

And we might even have put in a 3rd round bid for him (I'm not saying we did, like you I don't know)... but the Bungles' 3rd rounder would have been a higher pick, giving them Brooks... this is basically a blind bid type of deal, perhaps the Cowboys miscalculated what it would take to procure his services...

Or maybe they were never really interested at all...

Well, anyone doubting his talent is fooling themselves.

Which was my entire point... nice to know that at least you understood it...

I certainly doubt his ability to play at a high level for any reasonable period of time- say a full season.

Which would be fine, except you haven't given us any REASONS why you think that...

Obviously, his off-field problems aren't a consideration when we're talking about his "ability to play at a high level"... I also seem to remember you criticizing him for getting fat (when that was simply because he'd gotten hurt, and couldn't work out), but clearly he's in good enough shape now to play in the NFL...

Brooks was the national high school defensive player of the year his senior year, led the Cavs in tackles in both his freshman and sophomore years, and was a finalist for the Butkus Award as a sophomore... all of these suggest that he's very talented...

So why do you doubt his ability to play at a high level??

Answer-- you don't HAVE a good reason... in your mind, he's a "thug", and that's your entire reason for disliking the guy...

Also as a middle linebacker you should be expected to have the MOST tackles during a game. Although 11 in nice, it speaks volumes about your defensive line when you have THAT many in a game. (meaning the suck horribly)

As for me. Not impressed. I hate Ahmad Brooks. :D

He always speaks highly of you... wait til I tell him how you talk about him behind his back...

I'm a Virginia alumnus and season ticket holder.

I wouldn't have used a first-day pick on Brooks, and probably nothing above a 5th-rounder. We don't need players on the team who can't stay on the field, regardless of the reason, and I won't lament that the fact that Brooks isn't a Cowboy, no matter how well he does. Above the fourth round, he wasn't a risk I wanted the team to take.

But saying Ahmad Brooks is a "thug" and/or "troublemaker" is 100% inaccurate.

No... but again, I"m not griping because the Boys didn't acquire his services, I'm just pointing out to those who insisted Ahmad really isn't that good that he's gotten his career off to a rather impressive start...

Would that be 11 more tackles then our 18th pick of the draft? :bang2:
Maybe if either of the middle linebackers gets a DUI or something then Carpenter will get some time the same way.

From Ben Maller's NFL Rumors & Notes:

Ahmad Brooks, whom Cincinnati selected out of Virginia in the third round of the supplemental draft in July, had his first NFL start and had 11 tackles against Tampa Bay.

The guy's got no game at all... :D

He is in cincy along with the other malcontents
