Forget about Dak. Who will be the backup QB?

Since Cooper Rush was purely a Kellen Moore creation and would make much more sense for him to follow Kellen to the Chargers, who do you think will be the backup QB next season? I know nothing about Will Grier or if he is a McCarthy pet project. Is there any QB out there you would want that is familiar with the incoming BS (hint our new OC) system?

An important question since Dak's track record suggests that whoever the backup QB is will start a few games for us next season.

Probably some late round pick yet to be picked. They could go for one of the "high end" backups but then that ties another 6-8m up in the QB room which they probably want to avoid and those players are going to likely want to go somewhere where there is a rookie they can try and beat out.

I’m sure Jerry was enamored with Rush winning four games, so I expect him to be back. Jerry will overpay to keep him tying up lots of $$$ to the QB position. I expect the same to play out at RB

People are forgetting that Cooper Rush's success is exclusively due to knowing Kellen Moore's system inside/out. Kellen needs a backup QB in LA that knows his system. Makes no sense for Cooper Rush to want to stay in Dallas whatsoever.

I never said it would make sense, just that this is Jerry we’re talking about

Yeah lets just give the Chargers Rush, because he was a "Moore Creation" despite that he did pretty good for a backup. Better to go with the unknown than to keep someone who was successful at the position this season... This has nothing to do with some of the Daksters feeling threatened by Rush for some reason...

Every year there's a guy or two who's on a horrible college team with a horrible OC who possesses a solid accurate arm, you just need to locate him.
I mean if there's a guy in the first who got a solid like a Brady, not a cannon, but accurate, get him and build a offense around him.
So many times OCs try to cram a square peg into their round offense and wonder why the guy fails.
Accuracy is key, arm strength can vary a bit.

The Cowboys should draft a QB in the first or second round and work on developing him and pushing Dak to not get complacent. We need a reliable Starter and backup and if Dak chokes again we need a viable option.

This is what I think happens. He will help Herbert succeed

He was picked up by the Cowboys in 2017, when Linehan was the OC. How was he purely a Moore creation when he was competing with Moore for the backup QB position?

Rush is actually a free agent and Jerry has no control over where he wants to go. Chargers need a back-up to Herbert as well, as Chase Daniel is supposedly retiring.

I like the plan but Dak's contract keeps him very comfortable.

Jake Hanier in the draft.

Who are the decent mid to late round QB’s that might have something with some
Development. I haven’t been following college ball the last couple years.

Backup is a re-signed Cooper Rush .. until we get one better.

Should Rush get a crazy FA offer and departs, ..then it comes down to another free agent QB in Wil Grier ... while we seek to get a better backup QB .

Nope , .. i very highly doubt we will be drafting an heir apparent to Dak QB in early rounds.. at least THIS year.
