We'll likely draft the " project" types .. ala Mike White, ...Stephen ..McGee .... Ben DiNucci ...

but i'd still be for doing that ... who knows what kind of Brock Purdy you can discover in a long shot mid to late rounds ..

People are forgetting that Cooper Rush's success is exclusively due to knowing Kellen Moore's system inside/out. Kellen needs a backup QB in LA that knows his system. Makes no sense for Cooper Rush to want to stay in Dallas whatsoever.
Excellent point.......my guess, MM will want a guy in the room with extensive WCO experience.

we basically did this last offseason and after dak broke his hand and Rush sucked and would crush our season hopes according to most and he actually did look ok for a backup. Nothing special won't be big loss but hes our backup for now.

Most teams who lose their starter for the season, doesnt matter who the backup is , the season wont be a success in most situations.

better idea whos the 3rd does Grier have anything that he can take Rush's job this offseason or do we get 3rd to push Rush and eventually be daks backup....

IM sure they will bring in arms but for which purpose to push Rush out or Grier..

Id lie to see backup that mimics Dak more closely so when dak goes out the offense will look similar with less drop off. so a bit more mobile and athletic then Rush. rush may be out anyway over his money demands and for sure hes not worth keeping if hes price is too high,

we all know it was elite defense, STs, run game and OL carried Rish those 4 games. the team was palyig at a high level which dropped off quite a bit around week 10 and mno way Rush could hav ewon many fo thsoe games that needed more points and a QB that can escape and throw on the run. that OL and defense fatkteed for a month Sts started maki gmistkes, injuires happend etc etc thats wa snot the same team it was during Rush's stint,. even then the rams and eagles games were bad rush was on his way downhil;l already..

anyone still enamored with him might want to go back and rewatch those 5 games and realize Rush wasn't even a Bus driver he steered the bus on cruise control. Dak easily wins all those games and possibly that eagle's game. anyone who thinks different again wasn't watching what the rest of the team was doing in each of those games.

so with other chages made so far, im sure they are considering a lot of options in many places.

Since Cooper Rush was purely a Kellen Moore creation and would make much more sense for him to follow Kellen to the Chargers, who do you think will be the backup QB next season? I know nothing about Will Grier or if he is a McCarthy pet project. Is there any QB out there you would want that is familiar with the incoming BS (hint our new OC) system?

An important question since Dak's track record suggests that whoever the backup QB is will start a few games for us next season.
Its the same offense. No reason to not resign cooper rush unless someone throws a lot of money at him.

The Cowboys should draft a QB in the first or second round and work on developing him and pushing Dak to not get complacent. We need a reliable Starter and backup and if Dak chokes again we need a viable option.

PLEASE SAY THIS AGAIN, this is exactly what we need someone to make him feel uncomfortable!!! Not no project players like dannuci

hows that possible when most college teams run spread or version oif it nowadays and if not a traditional Pro-style offense, but WCO based would be tough to find now.. I believe MM has a WCO background that can be adapted to adapt to his current payers. this won't be 80/90s WCO type of offense.

I think fans are overthinking how much the offense will change but hopefully its simply recommit to run game and not a played out run right, middle, or wide type run but schemed run game with the entire team involved not just Rbs but payers like Turpin, Pollard, rbs, wrs, and TEs..Ie more screens ,motion ,and misdirection to get the run game moving when a team is trying to stop it.

then find the plays dak and this WR group like and run, more of that and less of the stop routes etc but a huge overhaul , Im not expecting that, given shotenhiemer knows the current offense but also has been in WCO type. an integrating with finding what best to run and lastly the in-game play calling knowledge of MM will be what makes this better in theory. hes done it before and highly successful at doing so,

Yeah lets just give the Chargers Rush, because he was a "Moore Creation" despite that he did pretty good for a backup. Better to go with the unknown than to keep someone who was successful at the position this season... This has nothing to do with some of the Daksters feeling threatened by Rush for some reason...
There is no threat from Rush except in your head. Zero. If you knew how mediocre Rush really is you would understand how silly that is. He's barely got the arm strength for a backup.

I don't know their contact status but there a few suitable backup QBs in the league.

Minshew & Bridgewater come to mind immediately.

I think the backup will be a draft pick. I don’t think Rush will come back and I think the Joneses want to placate the Dak hating fans and hope maybe the draft pick can bring some energy to the team especially in training camp. Remember Dak’s rookie camp?

It will be someone who doesn't stand a chance to outshine Dak.
They won't let the "Cooper Rush" episode happen again.

Who are the decent mid to late round QB’s that might have something with some
Development. I haven’t been following college ball the last couple years.
I don't watch college, but since our QB situation is what it is now, I'm going to probably pay more attention. I mean nobody really know what Jerry means by drafting a QB, meaning what round is he referring too.

Jerry wont bring in anybody who could actually push the current QB. He apparently sees a marketing opportunity in Duggan so he might be a mid round pick. I think Jake Haener gets drafted around the same time has a better career though.
