Forget about Dak. Who will be the backup QB?

Since Cooper Rush was purely a Kellen Moore creation and would make much more sense for him to follow Kellen to the Chargers, who do you think will be the backup QB next season? I know nothing about Will Grier or if he is a McCarthy pet project. Is there any QB out there you would want that is familiar with the incoming BS (hint our new OC) system?

An important question since Dak's track record suggests that whoever the backup QB is will start a few games for us next season.
I'd go w/ a heady rook.

Don't care who the back up is. Should be a mid to late round pick. I'd rather spend the money on a starter instead of a backup. Either way this team won't be a serious contender.

Blue.....I'm talking about a backup QB for Dak whose familiar/experienced in WCO.
IM saying we have zero idea what version of a WCO we will run or how much it will be adapted to our old paybook,

so like any B/U qb or a QB new to system they can simply come in and learn it.. i rather have a QB that has similar skillset to Dak so we don't have to cage much of the offense if hes out..so it doesn't matter who they bring in they will all have to learn MM version of the WCO he designs for OUR current roster, offense including Dak

Will Grier might take step or go draft a backup thats mobile but also is a pocket passer.

curious to how much under center vs shotgun MM offense will have but i do know the run game is easier to run from under center because the defense cant get an immediate read on run vs pass and there more you can call in the run game from under center vs shotgun as well as more 2 back/FB could be utilized..

If we are a serious contender, we'd need a Chad Henne, a Minshew, Bridgewater, Heinicke, Keenum, Mullens, maybe even a Brissett type. Colt McCoy.

There’s a handful of decent names if Rush does want to leave. Sign a guy and draft another in the 4th/5th

Minshew
Brissett
Bridgewater
Mike White
Heineckie
Drew Lock

Yes but they aren't. They will free up enough cash to be good but not a serious contender so i'd rather not use money on a backup. I imagine Rush will cost around, and my thought is i'd rather pay wilson that money since he'll play more and be more influential in most games. Now if Stephen decides to go al in and actually build the best team he can then hell yes get a backup just in case, but he wont' he will say how cap heavy they are blah blah blah.

Hard to say.
They usally dont put a lot of money into the back up QB position.

He was picked up by the Cowboys in 2017, when Linehan was the OC. How was he purely a Moore creation when he was competing with Moore for the backup QB position?
That's correct..

We would be stupid to allow Rush to leave. At the beginning of last season I never thought I'd be saying that.

Hopefully not Cooper Rush.

It doesn’t matter if he’s not good enough to be the starter.

People are forgetting that Cooper Rush's success is exclusively due to knowing Kellen Moore's system inside/out. Kellen needs a backup QB in LA that knows his system. Makes no sense for Cooper Rush to want to stay in Dallas whatsoever.
Yep. New offense. No guarantees he plays the same when called upon. I’d go for a cheaper option unless it’s someone who can legitimately challenge Dak. Rush needs to capitalize on his success this year and take whatever pays the most. Probably his first and last big payday.

There is no threat from Rush except in your head. Zero. If you knew how mediocre Rush really is you would understand how silly that is. He's barely got the arm strength for a backup.
No the threat must be in some of the homers heads. I never said Rush was the answer or should be starting quarterback. But he did a good job as a backup and you don't get rid of someone unless you know you have a replacement. I'm not for drafting another Backup Quarterback without knowing he's a step up from the guy he is replacing

The Cowboys should draft a QB in the first or second round and work on developing him and pushing Dak to not get complacent. We need a reliable Starter and backup and if Dak chokes again we need a viable option.
Definitely, not later than the 3rd round. It is time to find a replacement for Dak at some point soon.

Jerry was at the Senior Bowl scouting QBs, so I'm not concerned about them finding the right backup QB.
