Forget frugality, we need to get serious about the DE position

I don't expect any changes with how theyre doing things now, especially after such a great draft

I don't have an issue with our defense; they are who they are. I'm talking about the fans trying to prop them up as some legit or slept-on defense.
They were playing better of late, but jackass Gregory got suspended, Thorton was still hurt, & Claiborne, who had a great game last time vs Green Bay, was hobbled. I'm not making excuses for what is an average defense. God knows, I've been whining for years about Jerry's apparent lack of interest in rushing the passer, or covering receivers. That all came home to roost today, & I hold Jones completely responsible. Hopefully, they duct tape his *** to a chair in another room during the draft this year. We have a great young nucleus of talent on the offense, but the defense is long overdue for some real help.

I think a trade for DE works best. Robert Quinn would look nice in a cowboy uniform. I know he has been hurt but might be able to get him for a 2nd. Rams need picks in draft without a 1st.

Wait, what happened to all those threads from folks trying to convince us this defense was actually ballin' out?
:hammer: There was one last week. That we had the most sacks in the last 5-6 weeks or was it mayowa was the most dominate in DE in the last few weeks. Something like that

The "future" is here. The time is now. Whatever it takes to get some DL talent needs to be done. Jerruh's found Charles Haley before, Dallas needs him to do it one more time.
He didn't "find" Charles Haley. This has to be one of the worst retorts in CBZ history.

It sort of feels like we are that Charles Haley signing to get us over the top. Our front isn't as talent now as it was in the 90's but having a guy who can consistently get pressure would help everyone on the line. I hope D-line is priority number one this offseason.

Calais Campbell had 8 sacks this season and will be UFA. He is entering his 9th season and will be turning 31, if he is willing to sign a fair contract he would be a great addition. Kawann Short is UFA will be available as will Demarcus Ware. These UFA will be looking to cash in on a high priced contract more than what they are worth. DE/DL help will need to come via the draft. If DC want to add an impactful veteran DE they will need to trade for one. Romo and 2nd round pick for Clowney would be awesome.

My comment wasn't a retort. How about you brush up on your comprehension & word meaning?
I was merely pointing out the fact Dallas needed Haley back in the early 90's. He was an integral part of those defenses that won them Supe Bowls. Yes, Jimmy was the HC the Jones was still the "GM" here and was part of the front office that helped get him here.

It's not like he was working at Home Depot. He was one of the most dominant defensive ends in the game.

Exactly. Thanks for making out the obvious point. Every cowboys fan knows that and everyone knows Haley wore out his welcome in SF.

Nick Perry (Green Bay) will be a free agent.

He's 26, 6'3", 265 lbs. and coming off an 11-sack season.

In the end you are a sum of your parts. Our defense can play with good teams with decent QBs, but we dont have the fire to stop an elite QB when it matters

The Giants spent a ton of money on defense and they couldn't stop Rodgers, either. We need to improve the DL, but Rodgers is tough on a lot of teams.

Lots of guys on this board should know better by now. Stephen and McClay are not going to buy big high dollar players in FA. It's just
not going to happen. They also are not going to trade for any players that's just a fact. They will look for a mid-level player who comes
available just like last year and try and draft a good DE in round 1 or 2 of the draft. That is the way they built the OL and that is the way
they will build the DL going forward. We have a young team and it's going to take a couple of years to get a team capable of winning
in the big dance. Be patient cause it's going to take some time.

Yep.

Some DL help, some secondary help.

And the need for the offense not to go FG, punt, punt on its first 3 drives.

That's exactly right. They aren't giving up any draft picks for some high-cap DL help. Not going to happen.

It's going to play out pretty much as you've posted.
