I doubt Deion ever feared covering anyone.
And if you are referring to the 98 season, he was easily going to win defensive player of the yr before the infamous toe injury ...it was definitely a legit injury and he was never the same after it
David
Legit or not, he played when he was facing lesser receivers but not when he was facing Moss or someone of his caliber.
I also stated that it was mostly towards the end of his career.
People have this myth that Deion could cover anyone and shut down half the field and neither was true. Irvin, Rice, Herman Moore, Keenan McCardell, Jimmy Smith, Randy Moss, etc., the bigger, physical WRs could and did beat him with some regularity.
Lesser QBs threw away from him because it was easier, not because it was impossible to complete a pass against him. The better ones (Aikman, Marino, Elway, Young, Brunell) went to their top WR regardless of who was on him.
Not saying Deion wasn't a great cover CB but he wasn't invincible and he wasn't the best ever. His closing speed might have been the best ever but he could be beaten short consistently and he could be outmuscled by the bigger WRs.
