Former Cowboy OL Larry Allen is Retiring

I'd love to see Larry back in Texas Stadium. Sure wish Jerry wouldn't have said that there would be no more ROH inductions until we move into the new stadium. Texas Stadium is where LA made his mark & that's where he deserves to be when he finally joins Aikman, Irvin & Smith. And you better believe they'll be there the day it happens. Why should LA even bother atending any induction at our new stadium; it holds no memories for him there.

The last link of our last Super Bowl win gone... I'm 23 and I feel old. :(

How many first ballot HOF OG's are there? He's a real rarity. Here's to you LA.

He'd be a first ballot T too had he played there enough...dude made the probowl at LT and looked great playing there and he started out his rookie yr playing RT for us

Allen's the best OL I've ever seen, he had no weakness in his game. He was physically the most destructive blocker I ever saw, yet at the same time was incredibly mobile and could easily get to the 2nd and 3rd levels...he was hardly ever flagged for anything and played with a meanness on the field few could equal.

Awesome, awesome player.

I have read more then a few stories by writers from the late 90s and early 00's that players that were going to face allen tended to report injuries before the game. So it would not look so bad when Allen owned them.

That's what Deion Sanders used to do when he knew he would be facing guys like Randy Moss.

I hope this was a joke

Nope, just stating a fact. Deion consistently either had an injury that kept him out of the game but was back the next week or pulled up lame at some point in the game.

Deion did not like facing guys that could beat him consistently, particularly towards the end of his career.

Hopefully? He's the best lineman ever to play. Yeah, I think he's first ballot material.

Being that Larry is the way he is... I bet he wouldnt mind signing a one day contract, retire a Cowboy followed by Jerry saying..... "we would like to retire you a cowboy and put you in the ROH" - ALL IN ONE DAY.

Larry: "Uh, Thanks.... Alot"

:laugh2:

I doubt Deion ever feared covering anyone.

And if you are referring to the 98 season, he was easily going to win defensive player of the yr before the infamous toe injury ...it was definitely a legit injury and he was never the same after it

Legit or not, he played when he was facing lesser receivers but not when he was facing Moss or someone of his caliber.

I also stated that it was mostly towards the end of his career.

People have this myth that Deion could cover anyone and shut down half the field and neither was true. Irvin, Rice, Herman Moore, Keenan McCardell, Jimmy Smith, Randy Moss, etc., the bigger, physical WRs could and did beat him with some regularity.

Lesser QBs threw away from him because it was easier, not because it was impossible to complete a pass against him. The better ones (Aikman, Marino, Elway, Young, Brunell) went to their top WR regardless of who was on him.

Not saying Deion wasn't a great cover CB but he wasn't invincible and he wasn't the best ever. His closing speed might have been the best ever but he could be beaten short consistently and he could be outmuscled by the bigger WRs.

for his induction speech he should just have a weight bench with 225 on it, do 40 reps and walk off the stage
