Bengals mourn loss
Posted 21 minutes ago

aVikki Zimmer, the wife of Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer, passed away Thursday in Cincinnati.

The Zimmers were married for 27 years, with three children. Vikki Zimmer was born in Layton, Utah. She and Mike met during Mike’s coaching tenure (1981-88) at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah.

“We are stunned and saddened to learn of Vikki’s passing,” said Bengals president Mike Brown in a statement released just before the Bengals took the practice field Friday morning. “She was a warm and popular person in the Bengals family, and our immense respect and affection for Mike makes this especially hard. Our hearts are out to Mike and his family.”

“Mike is part of our Bengals family, and we’ll support him in every way we can,” said Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis. “We will dearly miss Vikki. She was a friend to all of us, and a big supporter of Mike’s players. Her thoughtfulness to them in so many ways will also be greatly missed.”

Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Mike Zimmer, a 10-year defensive coordinator in the NFL, is in his second season with the Bengals.

That's awful. Had she been ill?

Always thought Zimmer was a good coach, believe it or not.

Terrible....

She was baking stuff for the Bungles players in this article dated Sept of 09 so this must have been completely unexpected.

Use that chip to dig away under Zimmer's regime and there are more than F-bombs and GD-grenades. There are other chips, too. The ones his wife puts in her chocolate chip cookies and bakes for his players. The Hard Knocks cameras caught him telling his guys he had them with him but with the quick rejoinder, "It wasn't my idea."

But Vikki Zimmer laughs. If it's not chocolate chip cookies it is oatmeal raisin or Snickerdoodles. Last week she made cinnamon rolls and she wants to make sure one week she gets a massive fruit tray in there.

You weren't part of the lynch mob trying to hang him while he was here? :laugh2:

Nope. I did come to a point where I thought it was best for everyone for him to move on when Parcells wanted his own kind of 3-4. But a few years ago, I was sure that Zimmer would already be a head coach in the NFL by now.

Whether you critcized or defended Zimmer doesn't matter. This is a tragedy. My thoughts and prayers go out to loved ones of Vikki Zimmer.

Well put. As somebody who's been married for 33 years, it would be hard to imagine life without my wife. My thoughts, prayers and heartfelt sympathy go out to his family.

This is bad news. I am truely sorry for Mike Zimmer and the entire family. It's always a hard thing to read of these things. When you have somebody who has been associated with the Cowboys and was not really popular, things get said and they are not always flattering. Mike Zimmer's time here was no different though I do think he probably deserved a little better. It's easy to forget that they have families and people who love them.

I am sorry for Mike Zimmer and I hope that he is able to deal with this, as best as possible and get on with his life.

Respects and condolences for Mike and the Zimmer Family.

Sad news. They talked about her on the Bengals Hard Knocks show. He would make baked goods for the Bengals players.
