You're now assigning qualities to all offender pre incarceration that makes the argument a non sequitur. Assuming all offender are "non violent" is ridiculous, just as assuming those same offenders will be a violent criminal upon release is ridiculous. You are using blanket statements that don't fit all situations. Prisons isolate bad people from good and allows those that are redeemable time to correct themselves.Explain how turning a nonviolent offender into a violent criminal helps people outside of bars. That is the type of thing that prison accomplishes.
