This post is wrong on so many levels. A majority of NFL players aren’t multi-millionaires or superstars. They also have a shelf life of about 3-4 years. So you have guys making hundreds of thousands for a few years and they walk away banged up and NFL just acts like they don’t exist. You’re acting like every player is in a mansion with cash on the bed and they just don’t plan their lives. This attitude is prevalent too
I know it’s catchy to say that something is wrong “on so many levels”, but you need to back up that statement with many “levels” of examples.
In 2020, the minimum salary was $610,000.
Let me say that again. The minimum salary was $610,000!!
Even if a player only plays for a few years on the minimum......he is by definition a Multimillionaire! Most normal people don’t make that much minimum NFL type money in an entire lifetime.
If the players can’t save money wisely to afford their own healthcare....then that is their choice.
And for those players who only play a year or so....well they are very unlikely to get neurological problems because they aren’t subjected to 10-15 years worth of hits.
Either way.....if this is an issue that the players are truly passionate about, the players association should mandate that 5% of their salaries (or whatever it takes) goes into a pool to afford their healthcare. Its really that simple.
