I just think 1st round has to be a day one starting player that can make an impact. Now if there is a qb there in the 2nd-4th that Garrett and coaches really like. Then by all means.
I just think it would be hard to pass on a defensive game changer if there for a back up QB for 2 to 3 years

There are tons of successful and even over achieving first round picks that weren't day one starters. I don't like Brent Hundley, but we'd be foolish to pass on a guy with all pro potential who won't be a day 1 starter.

I'm done debating this. You would have taken JFB or Bridgewater over Martin last year and whom playing RG? I'm glad your not the GM

I disagree. I think we would be crazy to pass on the better play for Hundley who I think is a 2nd round pick. Stay with with the board

Thats your opinion on a player. If the Cowboys have Hundley rated as a mid first, then he needs to be seriously considered

fwiw, the following first round picks weren't day 1 starters

QB: Aaron Rogers, Carson Palmer, Eli Manning and Phillip Rivers
RB: Adrian Peterson and Steven Jackson
WR: Dez Bryant, Odell Beckum, Rueben Randle, Roddy White, Reggie Wayne, Demarius Thomas

I could keep going, but you get the point

My post did not even suggest passing on a superior player, and I even said I don't like Hundley, it's just incorrect to assume a first round pick has to be a day one starter. Sometimes the BPA has to sit behind a good player

I'm not totally against taking a QB if the value is there. This past year, I thought Zack Martin was better value than Johnny FB (and Teddy B too), so it wasn't even a consideration for me when they were picking in Rd1.

After watching Romo play some great football so far this year, I'd say the unknowns were greater last offseason than this one.
He's at least now shown he can still play well, as he did so for 5-6 straight games.

Of the three back issues that he's had, only one (the herniated disc) is serious over the long haul. He got crunched pretty good in the Washington game, but that's not something that re-aggravated his repaired herniated disc.

Now if he ends up going down for an extended period, all bets are off.
