FOX gets Thursday Night Football

Please do away with Color Rash (any Uni-Watch readers here?) and get rid of the stupid one helmet rule and do color vs. color throwback Thursdays. The alternate uniform idea was good but of course they ruined it with the garish leotard look mandate. Everyone would love throwback Thursdays. Though the Cowboys double star jersey that came out of color rush was great, keep that.

Agree 100%. Goodell is such a fraud. Implement strict rules on tackling and remove the kickoff to "protect" the players. Thursday night games and turning extra points into FGs counters that. The league is run by morons. The players universally hate the Thursday games. If it was all about the players health they should have those 2 bye weeks and expand the rosters. That will actually protect them. It is a sinking ship.
Expanding the rosters is another great idea

I wouldn't care if they carried a 10 player STs squad but at worst have everyone on the 53 man roster and Practice Squad should dress for the games...... If a PS player enters the game he has to be added to the 53 man roster on Monday and stay active for at least 3 weeks

How many games a year?

How many commercials a game?

How much per ad? Fuzzy said $500K.

Total.

Declining? Maybe. Dying? No.

This past Sunday night, the pro bowl had the highest ratings on television scoring better to other sports playoff games. To round out the top 5? NFL Sunday Countdown.

For the pro bowl!

Ratings are only a small part of the story and only someone with an objective will read into them. The NFL is still enjoying record advertising revenue despite the ratings dip and they are still attracting massive television deals such as the one referenced in this thread.

As more Americans cut the cord, ratings will continue to dip but when you’re still the top rated show on television by a large margin and you’re still the most popular sport by an even larger margin..advertisers are still going to line up. As long as the advertising contracts and the television deals continue to increase, NFL isn’t going away anytime soon.

:hammer:For some fans to think a monster like the NFL is dying ........from what I hear, colossal companies like Apple, Amazon, Comcast, Verizon, AT&T are all waiting on the sideline.

The NFL doubling down on Thursday night football is such a NFL move. Dumbest league management in all of sports.

They just sold the rights for major bank so it was hardly a poor decision on the NFL's part. Fox management you could make the argument for but not he NFL.

3 consecutive years of huge ratings loses.
Not that simple.

There are other factors that make it look to be so.

Some have already been discussed. Others like the anthem thing etc. are not yet proven to be a sustaining factor.

But the rise of teams with no built in ratings clout like the Rams and Jags versus the decline of the Cowboys, Giants, Broncos and Packers unquestionably hurt. Put several of those teams in the mix, the ratings would be bigger.

The casual fan is not going to suddenly get interested in a Saints or Rams or Jaguars (even the Vikings or Falcons) like they would for a matchup featuring the Giants, Packers or even Broncos.

The NFL also was reluctant to flex the big games on Sunday night, they did it only one time.

Wait, I thought the league is all in on player welfare and health. It doesn't matter that all the players think the Thursday game puts them at risk?

The NFL is not close to death and has plenty of options, including PPV, to stay in the black. The challenge for them in this next TV deal are those ratings point drops and make goods the nets have had to deal with for the first time in a long time. They were both used to being on that steady incline so everyone was happy.

The real problem is does this problem have a workable solution for both parties? Can they even narrow it down to one to start on?

I think the league will have to get even further outside the traditional TV nets and the nets will just have to suck it up on the exclusivity issue if they want to carry the games. The strength still lies with the league because of the additional avenues available to them and the ridiculous amount of money Amazon, Apple, Google and Microsoft can throw at them.

if its anything like years past the NFL network carried the game and another station as well so people without cable could view it..now that its on another cable channel i guess it will force those that don't get NFL network or Fox sports will miss it..isn't that bad for ratings if less people who want to watch cant?

No........it will be on regular over the air FOX as well as the NFL Network for 11 weeks

The NFL Network will cover the other weeks solo, except for Thanksgiving

So we get a double dose of Aikman and Bucky Joe, or do they think they are too good to do TNF?

I just threw up a little bit w/ the thought of Aikman & Buck twice a week. I predict an all time low in viewership for Thursday NIght football next season. Not joking..
