If I am the Cowboys I franchise Murray or let him leave in free agency.

If you think he has a good year left in him franchise him then let him walk after next season. The cap hit will be temporary and you got his best years out of him.

Sign him to a contract and they will end up eating dead cap money.

In October Jason La Canfora reported the 2015 franchise tag fro running backs was expected to be $10.85 million. I doubt they franchise him because even in a big contract the amount they'd have to guarantee wouldn't be a lot more than that in my opinion.

I'm for signing him to a relatively affordable deal or letting him walk.

let him walk...draft Coleman from Indiana in the 3rd and put that money saved into this defense.

Coleman/Randle/Dunbar behind this O-line which will continue to get better with age, will be enough to get this offense going. we need players on defense and they all won't come from the 2015 draft.

I really like Murray and hope there's some magical compromise where he stays and its not a contract that limits the team from making improvements to the defense. That's not likely, so you just have to let him go. He's going to get a big contract from some team like the Raiders or Jets, and he's earned it.

Let him walk. It's not worth it to sign running backs to huge contracts these days. Plus, this is the only year he has stayed healthy throughout.

Running backs are a dime a dozen.

This. I'm not really convinced that his production, or close to it, can't be easily replaced.

We're learning as a fan base aren't we. Absolutely let him walk. Giving players contracts and keeping them too long I hope are past us.

Great running backs are NOT a dime a dozen. We will resign Murray and many of you will ***** and gripe that we paid too much. We will resign Dez too, and probably overpay to keep him. But if it is a choice between keeping DEZ or keeping MURRAY, I cut WITTEN's cap number and keep both. I don't care if it is a reduction in salary or an outright cut. Both are more valuable, and harder to replace than Witten. Moreover, Witten's replacement is already on this roster in Hanna/Escobar.

I can not support the position of franchising Murray. That simply isn't the best use of our limited resources we have to improve the 53.

The majority of the time running backs are a product of the offensive line. Of course, there are always exceptions to this (AP).

I'm not saying a running back could come in here and put up the same numbers as murray, but the difference won't be what the difference in pay is.

Leveon Bell, Adrian Foster, Adrian Peterson, Frank Gore, Marshawn Lynch, Lesean McCoy, Alfred Morris, Mark Ingram, Jamaal Charles, Matt Forte, Eddie Lacy, CJ Spiller, Gio Bernard.......

That would be silly. Most backs get 4 year deals. Let's say Murray gets a 4 year, 32 mill deal with half the salary guaranteed. Realistically that boils down to being able to cut bait after the 2nd year. Gee, 9 mill in cap hit for one year or spread 16 mill over 3. Seems a bit of a no brainer to me.

non of those backs are GREAT...except, peterson

Most of these guys won't be available, or would cost as much to sign as Murray. What are you gaining in that case? Zero. Most are not as good, or as versatile as Murray. Moreover none of them will be available to draft this year. No RB drafted would have Murray's experience or ability to pick up the blitz. That can't be underestimated with Romo's health being a primary concern going forward.
