non of those backs are GREAT...except, peterson

Well if Murray is GREAT, it took him an awfully long time to get there.

Joseph Randle is averaging 7 yards a carry. The line is great, not the backs.

Most of these guys won't be available, or would cost as much to sign as Murray. What are you gaining in that case? Zero. Most are not as good, or as versatile as Murray. Moreover none of them will be available to draft this year. No RB drafted would have Murray's experience or ability to pick up the blitz. That can't be underestimated with Romo's health being a primary concern going forward.

Agreed, so pay him $5-6 million. If he wants 10 million for four years, draft Melvin Gordon out of Wisconsin for cheap instead, or sign Peterson, who is actually worth that kind of money.

Great running backs are NOT a dime a dozen. We will resign Murray and many of you will ***** and gripe that we paid too much. We will resign Dez too, and probably overpay to keep him. But if it is a choice between keeping DEZ or keeping MURRAY, I cut WITTEN's cap number and keep both. I don't care if it is a reduction in salary or an outright cut. Both are more valuable, and harder to replace than Witten. Moreover, Witten's replacement is already on this roster in Hanna/Escobar.

Dallas offered him 16mil for 4 yrs. Id rather have Dallas offer AP 16 mil over 2 yrs.

I've been saying that is the biggest thing people seem to overlook. They just look at the runner - he's great at picking up blitzes, which is really the #1 thing in my estimation, given we believe the line is as good as we think they are. Now I wouldn't overpay him either, that is my biggest concern.

Peterson is the perfect storm
  • Vikings were already planning on moving on from his huge 2015 cap number; the incident pretty much guarantees they cut him
  • Some teams will be afraid to sign him, so no bidding war
  • He wants to play for the Cowboys
  • Jerry loves him
  • We are going to have a huge need at his position
  • From a PR standpoint, it's Jerry giving the local kid a chance to redeem himself
  • From a marketing/merchandise standpoint, he will make Jerry money

In today's NFL these is no need for a great RB anymore. All you need is a good RB, and good RB's are indeed a dime a dozen.

If its not AP or Murray id rather dallas go with Randle and a bigger rookie rb like Yeldon.

The NFL is moving back to RB driven offenses. Murray is not totally a product of this OL. Most of his yardage is generated from great moves behind the line of scrimmage. You cannot plug and play RBs as much as some of you seem to think you can. Murray is putting up great numbers because Murray is a great running back.

I'm all for signing Murray to an affordable deal or letting him walk, but some of you guys are fooling yourself into thinking we can replace him easily. Joseph Randle is not Demarco Murray and Randle+Ryan Williams isn't either. Unless we take a RB in the first or a good one falls to us in the second, our running game will be noticeably less productive.

Its not the special abilities that make me wanna keep murray...its his hard work ethic, his approach to the game, and his un selfish attitude he never says 2 much

I reserve the franchise tag for Dez and let Murray explore free agency.

yea, and i get the economically, it probably makes more sense to let him walk, because the team would be more improved with less at the RB position and more at DE, but Murray will be missed

Its funny because as good as the o line is and it is good without Murray i dont know if we are 9-4 alot of our success i believe stems from his ability to take on a heavy work load, but people dont see that.. they see our oline and immediately believe that ANY RB could carry the ball 41 times and i know he had some receptions so before someone come in with the "he carried if only X times cuz he had X receptions".....i dont care he carried the ball 41 times
