The Cowboys would have needed to clear cap space to sign draft picks anyway. I would hope they'e clearing it to get ready for a signing. However, if you're basing it off of previous years perhaps it's just to clear space for L.P., perhaps another resign, a backup free agent, and space for draft picks. If they were going to make a big splash they likely need to free up a lot more space.

No they don't. When the rookie pay scale was instituted, the league also instituted that a certain portion of a teams cap already be set aside for rookies. I'm not sure exactly how it works, but I'm pretty sure that's a thing now.

They'd open up $10 Million in 2018 alone by letting go of Witten and Scandrick post June 1 and another $12.5 Million with Dez if he can't figure out the route running thing.

DAL only needs around 2.3m for the Draft picks and they don't even need it until they sign in the Summer

This move was not made with draft picks in mind. Simple as that. It was made for signing someone/multiple people. It’s only left to be determined if that is a big salary or the small fries we are used to.

The move was made because it is an automatic restructure that you will find in every single big contract we sign with guaranteed years.

It was made now because it is the first day of the league year. A.k.a. the first day we could do this thing that is automatic.

Please peoples. Let's try to understand some basics before we draw conclusions.

Ok, you'd have $22.5 million to sign.....whom?

Won't be anyone left by then.

Restructuring like Dallas does will hurt later... it’s why Dallas stays in cap hell...

Until the Cowboys have freed up Cap Space all the Good Free Agents are gone anyway.

The chicken little daily meltdown posters are going to be left confused as to where all this cap room cane from over the next several days. By Friday expect up to $30 million in cap space with only one further player being released.

When you choose to remain ignorant instead of listen to and accept the MONTHS worth of explanations to the contrary, you have nobody to blame but yourself.

You should have some basic understanding that today was not the 1st day they could have announced this. Several other teams have already restructured players and also used said restructure $ to sign free agents.

I'm sure one will be LP, our long snapper.

Expected that. Expect La'ell Collins too. Possibly even 88. So the pieces are falling into place. Cooper is the next question mark. That will give us some insight on the draft IMO
