Why do people always say this as if every 30 year old is the same? So lazy.

Or they could actually take into account the injury issues the guy had this past season and combine that with his age to come to a reasonable conclusion. Unless someone else was too lazy to find out that he had injury issues last year and added that to the dynamic.

Combine that with his age and It's a red flag. Please stop pretending to be a competent thinker.

1. Hes 31 not 35.

2. This was his first time dealing with injuries for the most part.

3. He wont command much money. So again, stop talking. Im assuming you're one of the people crying about (old) players who arent even old.

1. 31 is on the wrong side of 30.

2. It doesn't matter if this was his first year dealing with injuries. Age is not you friend when you start to experience them.

3. You have no idea what money he's going to command. He was the highest paid safety in the league when he signed his deal and wanted an extension with the Chargers before this past season started.

Talk about lazy. Pick a name and rally behind it. You've pulled the train into Stupidville. Take a look at some of the long term leases while you're there. I think you've found your comfort zone.

They will sign some under the radar off the wall no names, and tell us they are great hidden gems.
Like the past few years, Mincey, T. McClain, Brinkley and Gachkar, even Rivers at LB too....how has that really worked out for us.
Throw in Corey White also, who flashed but was not "suited" for the team..LOL...

Mincey was decent but not the difference maker, time to move on. But if Hardy is not back, then look for Mincey to be back. T. McClain seemed he could be decent, but can't stay healthy. Which seem to be a theme for this team.

Spend the $$$$ and get some real FA's. They tried with Hardy, but seems the latest is they aren't interested in bringing him back. R. McClain, still an unknown at this point if he will be back, or how much either of them would want.

I hope they do not go this route with DB's with the "serviceable" hopefuls.

i was along that same thought train until i started watching tape on him,he isnt a ballhawk as such, most of his interceptions are on bad throws-over thrown or when the qb has a tipped pass,a guy im intrigued by is robert golden from the steelers,i see alot of promise in him alongside bj

The guy has awareness. How many tips balls do we see in Dallas just hit the ground? He has lead the AFC two years in a row with interceptions. That's no coincidence.

This lame reply me smirk. (Stupidsville) huh? Anyway, I'd buy plenty of property there if my opinion that having an injury after age 30 isnt a death sentence.

I tend to agree with the first few comments. He's actually been a pretty healthy guy for most of his career. Yeah he had a groin problem last year but prior to that he didn't miss a game for 5 straight seasons. To say he's got an injury concern is a big stretch, so I agree there.

That being said, the notion that he won't command much money is a bizarre comment considering he made $7.5MM last year and wanted an extension at that or higher in dollars, which was part of the issue he had with San Diego, among other things.

So, I think anyone thinking he'd come here on a nice, team friendly, affordable contract is probably smoking some great weed. To sign Weddle, you are probably looking at a similar deal to what he had from San Diego........... $7-8MM per year, $20MM guaranteed.

I'd love Weddle here next to Jones as our two safeties............ if the price was right. But I am not sure it will be for us.

The money thing I hope youre wrong. Guess it depends on other teams. I have no patience for anyone saying he's washed up. None.

And it is his brains I want more than his skills.

We need a vet QB in the secondary and there is no one better imo.
can
Let Wilcox and Church battle for snaps at SS and keep BJones at CB with OScan and a draft pick.

I am not sure I like this idea. I don't think the ceiling is as high for Jones at CB as S. Meaning, he might end up being a decent CB but I think he could be a stud at S.

He's 31 and we're not rebuilding. He's a good veteran.

I have read on this board that we need to draft a QB, WR, DT, LB, CB, RB, and Safety (not in that order). Ok so that is not rebuilding but you have to admit it is a lot of holes to fill. He is a good vet, I will give you that but some of you seem to think he will come cheap. As it has been pointed out, he was/is making 10 mil a year and wanted a contract extension. So exactly what do you consider a good offer for him and what is he willing to take? How long of a contract would he want and would said contract have us in that "do we cut him a year early or keep him a year late" range? Your whole coaching staff is at the Sr. Bowl, identify a safety (one that has played the position for more than one year hopefully). The Giants got a good one, I think, in the 2nd round. Not sure we have the right coaches but I prefer to draft and develop vs. signing over paid free agents. Although, at the time, I thought the Hardy signing might pay off for us. Once again, I think Weddle is a good player, I would just go another route.

I see Byron Jones as the future at free safety for us. I think he has the potential to be a great free safety, not so much as a cornerback though. I'd like to see him featured there in the offseason.

That being said, I don't think it would be wise to sign a free agent at a high price as well, and then play either him or Jones out of position at strong safety. You can have two free safeties out there, and maybe that is the way the new NFL should be, but I think one of these guys is probably going to be underutilized out there given the resources involved.

Not so much as a cornerback. You clearly see that. Written in stone.

I didn't see anything about BJones at FS that jumped out and screamed stud. I saw him chasing a lot of players across the field, especially in the second PHI game.

I thought he looked better as a big CB that could match up with some of the bigger WRs. But whatever weird zone we play seems to make everyone look average.

I would rather pay a guy like Weddle, who I know can play the position.

I think it is clear that he has more potential at safety than cornerback. His skills clearly reflect that. Having him do both or even having him at corner limits his full potential.

Would love a safety, but the pass rush is the issue. Fix that, and a whole lot of other things get fixed, too.

It is clear our defensive coaches have the cb's play off. Only thing clear.
