What is the story with Mark Barron? He would seem to be a good fit at SS and he was popular around here during draft time.

Can Barron cover? He seems like a younger version of Church.

There are dozens of safeties that are better than anyone on our team. I don't want one that is old with an injury history. And probably wants big money, even if its not $10M a year.

So you want one of the dozens of Pro Bowl FSs that are available, young and will give you a discount because no one else has ever heard of them. Good luck.

He's a linebacker now.

Well they played him there because Ogletree got hurt, but he is still safety size and would still be an upgrade over Church and Wilcox. He led the Rams in tackles last year and he seems to have pretty high football IQ and can run pretty well. Made a lot of plays that I don't see many LB's making due to his quickness and ability to cut through traffic. I'm not sure why the Rams didn't pick up the 5th year option. He would seem to fit that "rover" role really well when they take a LB off the field.

They will sign some under the radar off the wall no names, and tell us they are great hidden gems.
Like the past few years, Mincey, T. McClain, Brinkley and Gachkar, even Rivers at LB too....how has that really worked out for us.
Throw in Corey White also, who flashed but was not "suited" for the team..LOL...

Mincey was decent but not the difference maker, time to move on. But if Hardy is not back, then look for Mincey to be back. T. McClain seemed he could be decent, but can't stay healthy. Which seem to be a theme for this team.

Spend the $$$$ and get some real FA's. They tried with Hardy, but seems the latest is they aren't interested in bringing him back. R. McClain, still an unknown at this point if he will be back, or how much either of them would want.

I hope they do not go this route with DB's with the "serviceable" hopefuls.

I think this year they'll go in a different direction and get at least one big name.

Charles Woodson was on the wrong side of 30 also look what he did.

Charles Woodson is also a 1st ballot Hall of Famer and a once in a generation talent. Weddle isn't even close. So, you know, there's that.

LOL at even comparing the two.

Guys, guys, guys...quit fighting!

Eric Berry is 27. We'll be fine once we sign him.

That's fair. Cut him. lol

I just don't think Weddle is going to be very expensive, so it would be a pretty low-risk signing.

Yeah I agree - he's made his big money on his second contract. I think for him considerations such as the team and city will be contributing factors to his decision. I think he's gettable and I hope we do - he's smart and tough.

Assuming Berry is gone, I would look at George Iloka to play SS. Byron has the skill set and athleticism to play FS. Iloka, IMO, is better than Church or Wilcox.

Add Karl Joseph as your dime safety to the mix.....and now your talking.;)

@least 1/2 the problem is solved...now the CBs:banghead:

A whole other set of problems.....

I know one thing....I don't want to see Church miss anymore tackles nor do I want to see Wilcox take another bad angle while trying to make a play on the football.

I've seen enough to know both those guys are not the solution your looking for.o_O

Last time Weddle was a FA, he wanted $10M a year. If he's looking for that again, no thanks.
Berry will likely be franchised.
Wilcox should be gone. As should Heath. If you can draft an upgrade over Church, great. Otherwise, he probably stays as a starter.
Jerry and the rest of the brass just seem unable to get the safety position right. It's been a weakness for a decade.

Wilcox is better than Church. Cheaper too.
