Would like to see up improve the punter position.... Seem to recall there was some competition in camp but we kept Jones

As long as he doesn't wind up on the Asthma Field, I'm ok with it. There should always be competition at Punter.

I saw two sweep rights against Green Bay, one went for a TD and the other one was fumbled, which may have went for another 80 yd TD. Leary is an excellent pull blocker.

I don't have the tape to recall 2 plays in the game but, I'll take your word for it. It still doesn't discredit Free, which is who I was defending. Free is the superior blocker of the two as it stands. As for tomorrow, who knows, perhaps Parnell gets better. He's a backup for a reason.

UFA
James Anderson - Nonfactor, see ya.
Dez Bryant - Deal gets done or franchised.
Bruce Carter - Think he will be offered a deal, but i think somebody pays him more.
Tyler Clutts - Should be a easy cheap resign.
Justin Durant - Think somebody will pay more here too.
Doug Free - Heart of the OL. Needs to be resigned.
Dwayne Harris - He's a special teams ace, but what else? Cheap
NIck Hayden - Marinelli favorite.
Tony Hills - probably better to draft a T
Henry Melton - Work out new deal or test the water. I think he tests.
Rolando McClain - Think losing Carter and or Durant opens this door.
Demarco Murray - He's already left.
Jeremy Parnell - He will be starting for some bad OL next yr.
George Selvie - Had his 15 mins of fame. He will be on somebody bench.
Anthony Spencer - Do you pay a 31 yr old? I dont.
CJ Spillman - Think this is either Spillman or Harris yr. Id go with Spillman.

I think Hitchens makes it easier to cope with the losses of Carter and Durant. Cam Lawrence will be back and he showed he can play in this defense aswell. Run with Hitchens/McClain/Lee.

I would go with Spillman over Harris because Spillman also plays in packages on defense. Harris gives you nothing on offense. Actually takes away from Street progress.

RFA
Cole Beasley - this is a given. I think Dallas should try to work out a multi yr deal.
Lance Dunbar - Does he really do anything worth 2.38mil that its going to cost to tender? Think Williams might have this spot.
Chris Jones - I have no idea what i would do here. Decent punter but 2mil for a punter?
Sterlin Moore - He is worth the 2.38mil but the team should try to work it out for a 2-3 yr deal.

I just dont see Dunbar worth the tender price. Would like to see Williams.

ERFA
Cam Lawrence - Should be able to work out a deal with him. Good special teams guy and decent backup.
Ron Leary - If i was Dallas i would try to sign him to a long term deal. 4 yr deal.
Darrion Weems - Will be on the team

Pretty good stuff. I would like to see a young nasty right tackle drafted, IMO we can do better then Free and Parnell. As it stands Free is more experienced but Parnell has more upside, although that ceiling is not that high. BTW - Travis Frederick is the new glue that keeps that line together. I think we keep Bruce Carter and Rolando McClain, Durant and Wilbur are the odd ones out. Why not pay Anthony Spencer as a backup? It's always good to have a few veterans around, he's 31 not 37, probably still runs the fastest 10 yard split on the defensive line.

If he was the heart and soul the OL would have crumbled without him. That isn't the case.

The results would not have been the same if Freddo or Martin missed the same amount of time that Free did.

Frederick/Martin are the heart and soul of this OL.

Sacks picked up and the running game slowed down without him.

Think we are seeing the best of Parnell. The guy has been in the NFL for 5 seasons. He isnt getting any better then what you see now. He will be 29 when the season starts. People on this forum act like the guy is like 24/25 yrs old. Hes no spring chicken.

Wilber is not a FA. I dont think Dallas will offer Carter enough and McClain is turning out to be just a mystery. This is nothing new for him either. Its these kinds of things that got him shipped out of Oakland. Its like he was the only one all yr who couldnt or wouldnt play thru a injury. I think he finished maybe 5 games all yr.

SMH. The guy was a basketball player. The only tackle he's played is what the Cowboys have taught him.

Ok, Wilbur is signed and a good back up to Bruce Carter at Sam. I say we roll with Rolando at Mike, Bruce Carter and Sean Lee at Will. Hitchens is the backup for Lee and McClain. We need great starters and good depth. Rolando was a big part of our success this year and Hitchens as good as he played is not close to Rolando McClain. Not close at all, IMO. We need to get Rolando right and I think we will.

Agreed on an upgrade, and it wouldn't shock me to see it happen. Wilbur is still under contract. Durant coming off of injury should be a cheap no brainer for depth. Parnell is a 5 yr vet and almost 29. He is what he is.

At training camp we had Cody Mandel a rookie from Alabama. He punted very well during preseason, but for some reason they kept Jones. Maybe he was a much better holder for Bailey.

Mandel got in trouble for something in the pre-season. I want to say he snuck out after curfew or something along those lines. Can't remember exactly, but he didn't play in the game the next day and was cut the day after.

So stop Hitchens growth? Hitchens IMO was playing better then McClain at the end of the yr. I like McClain and i love Carter. But i think Hitchens will be starting in 2015. And one guy it be Carter or mcClain will not be a cowboy because of that. Im willing to be if they have to choose between the two its McClain who isnt brought back.

So 5 yrs isnt long enough? You want 10?

He was a practice squad/developmental guy for two years, then had two years with a grand total of two starts. In reality this is his third year in the league. If you applied this standard to Ron Leary, he was horrible coming into the 2013 season because he was a practice squad player the year before.

I still think the team resigns Parnell and lets Free walk, it will be funny to see the reaction here if that happens.

Everyone needs to think about what a back-up tackle is doing during the practice week.

Jermey Parnell got minimal reps at LT and RT as the swing tackle and spent most of his time playing on the scout team helping to prepare the defense for the upcoming opponent.

That's right, Parnell was running other team's plays more than the Cowboys' plays.

He didn't play any OL in high school or college.

How many players are there in the NFL who can say that?

I remain convinced if Parnell gets starting reps at RT through the off-season, training camp and pre-season, his team will be getting a good player.

With Bill Callahan in Washington, I definitely see him pushing Dan Snyder and Jay Gruden to sign Parnell.

I prefer Parnell to Free, but will take either one.

Dallas just needs to get one of them done before free agency starts and put the issue to bed.

Calling Free the Heart of the OL is preposterous. He is easily the worst lineman we have. Sign whoever is cheaper between him and Parnell

Carter, Durant and McClain should be cheap enough to sign 2 of them

I would offer Spencer around 2m. We need a SDE.

Jones and Dunbar can go, easily replaced

I think they move quickly on McClain, Durant and Parnell. I would like to see Spencer come back on an incentive based deal but its more likely that some other team will guarantee him more money and he leaves. And if the team moves fast on a DE like Hardy or JPP they may not pursue Spencer at all.

In a perfect world I'd like to see DLaw at RDE with Mincey backing him up, then a premier FA at LDE with a draft pick from the 1st or 2nd round backing up that spot. If Spencer comes back on an incentive deal on top of that, it would be gravy. Unlikely gravy but still fun to think about.

I like that plan. They gotta add some big time talent to the DL, either at SDE or DT or both.

I can't see us losing both Carter and Durant. We need to pony up to keep one.

I think we will keep Durant. Marinelli says he's the best kept secret in the NFL. He seems to like him. Durant was the best defensive player earlier in the season. Him and Ro McClain is a must for having a deep LB core. I'd like to also sign Carter if we can and also draft another LB in the 3rd-5th round. If Murray leaves I think will get a runningback to fill that spot in the 2nd round.

I honestly wanted to listen to what the entire post said, but I was completely hung up on you calling Free the heart of the OL. Are you just trying to get a response, or do you really believe this? The Beard and Tyron can both take that title easily, and after next year Martin could be leader of this group. Leary brings attitude to this OL, and Free and Parnell play their roll well ... Saying he's the heart is a HUGE stretch...

If Free is the heart and soul of the OL you don't continue to win without him.
