I'd look at Demps and Hope first. However, I truly would like to see Dallas draft FS Ko Simpson from South Carolina in the 1st round though. Then in the 2nd I'd look at Kai Parham ILB from UVA to solidify the defense for years to come. Of course I am hoping that Burnett blossoms on the strong side making our defense very young and talented. Fingers crossed.

As an aside I would address C, RT and PK in free agency no matter what.

I would go with a veteran who has demonstrated play recognition skills. We don't need a superstar, just someone who is not going to let Santana Moss get behind him with the game on the line.

Putting a rookie back there to bite on every misdirection play or play action pass solves zilch. We already got that in Keith Davis.

The only thing that stopped Davis from being the worst starting defensive player in the NFL was Shanle/Fowler.

Great special teamer, embarrassingly bad as a FS.

WTH are you talking about? Or is this an inside joke that I'm just not getting?

I hear you but if the rookie can flat out play then what's the harm? The vet may come at a steep price tag and only be here for a year or two at best then we are back to the drawing board at FS.

Does Dallas really need 3 first round draft picks and a premium price free agent at every spot in the secondary to be efficient?

Seems like overload and poor resource allocation to me. I don't think any of the names ddhh suggested are going to break the bank. Again, I don't want a superstar veteran FS. I just want someone who isn't going to let Ricky Proehl or Santana Moss behind them with the game on the line because they bit on the playaction (when its not even a running situation).

If we sign a free agent vet we would be spending a fairly high amount of money in the secondary for 4 of the last 5 years anyway so why not get more bang for your buck by signing a youngster for several years?

Or, how about we go with the current configuration, (which was one of the best secondaries in the league, despite Davis' shortcomings) and get more impact players up front, to make it easier on our already VERY good secondary?

Sorry, just don't see Corey Chavous, Marquand Manuel or Will Demps breaking the bank in free agency. Certainly not making the money the #18 pick in the draft would make. Maybe I'm wrong.

I concur in part with your post. I agree that we need more impact players up front. As I stated in my 1st post, I think that ILB should be addressed early in the draft (first or second round). Also, I stated that I hope Burnett can come on strong next season at the SOLB giving us a very young talented and athletic front seven (Spears, Ferguson, Canty, Ware, James, Rookie ILB, Burnett). I love that. However, where I disagree is going with status quo. Although our secondary was VERY good this season it still had a flaw. We didn't intercept alot of passes back there and the FS spot is an acknowledged weakness. An upgrade there is necessary and likely to occur this offseason in my opinion.

We get more pressure on the QB, you'll see ALOT more balls getting picked off. Good coverage and QB pressure are products of one another. Neither is exclusive to itself.

I really hope you all dont get McCree. My family knows him personally and he is a really good guy...it would be a shame to see him in a Cowboys uni.

I'm not sure what the fair market value will be this year for a free safety and I can't recall the terms of Darren Sharper's Deal last offseason but I know it was a four year deal. I am sure his deal was around the same amount or greater than what the 18th pick in the draft got a year ago. Plus, he most likely earned more per year thru the life of the deal than the 18th pick a year ago.

The 18th pick in the draft a year ago was Erasmus James and he received a 7yr. $10 million contract. Our 18th pick will see something similar assuming the new CBA is in place prior to the draft. That is not breaking the bank at all if it is a young talented FS.

I would fiscally make a move on the 18th pick over a vet.

We muffed FA Safety last year with Sharper, Jackson, Smith.

Vet = Ty Law if Parcells can get to him personally

Draft - Anthony Smith, Ko Simpson

Keith Davis is our future FS!
Please! Leave him on special teams. We need much better play from our FS.

Probably will fill this position in Free Agency. There is a kid by the name of Danieal Manning who could be available in the 3rd or 4th Round.
