I would personally rather spend what little $ we do have on the DL.

Was Bryd franchised? If so, then his base salary would be very high.

Coverage comes hard when you've got no pressure on the QB. We need line help and soon.

Who can say how much "The Foot Issue" is being driven by the "Desire To Be Elsewhere" thing? I have not heard that the foot is career threatening or something that put him on the shelf for a season. However, I have really not kept up with that issue so there may be something there I am not aware of but if he can come back and play, that helps a whole bunch of stuff on Defense.

As far as the 4 million, again, I think you can re-negotiate that though contract extension so it doesn't necessarily have to be 4 million. Does anybody know the rules on how this can work in a trade such as this?

You make good points ABQ.

I would suggest reading JT's post above for some of the answers.

The other reason I would "stay the course" with Church and Wilcox because I don't think safety is the big problem with the defense at the moment. I like the potential of Wilcox and for the most part I like what Church has done.

I think the defense has bigger needs.

I'm of the opinion that if you can upgrade a position, then you do that and Byrd, he's definitely an upgrade.

I get that.

But I think there are big picture issues at hand.

Now this is how to have conversation.

This is very tempting but I think we have the talent at the position to do well over time. You have to be judicious about using resources and while you can always create cap room everytime you do so you are borrowing from the future to pay the now. A little of that is ok for the right guy at the right time. Too much just handcuffs your ability to hang onto the guys you want to resign. We've been robbing Peter to pay Paul since the 90s although we've gotten better for sure.

There are always big picture issues. I'm told that Jerry and Stephen can make magic with the cap. Make Magic Jerry, make Magic Stephen.
The magic is an offseason trick. There are more limitations during the season.

If they can do it without gutting the roster, then I'm for it. But I don't think this is realistic. It's mid-season and too expensive.

How much money do we save by Allen resigning with the Steelers?

Allen's salary was $900K. So, I guess the Cowboys get 11/16 of it back, roughly $600K. Not sure what happens if the Steelers would cut him sometime later. Would the Cowboys be liable for his guaranteed salary or would the Steelers be on the hook for the rest?

Steelers. I wonder if the Cowboys could use Article 10, Section 2(c) of the CBA on Spencer?

That clause says that a contract can be terminated if the player fails “to establish or maintain his excellent physical condition.”

That's kind of broad language.

Would be great signing... I was posting in the Miles austin thread maybe they would take miles.. Wouldnt that help with cap?

Whatever is left over of his signing bonus would accelerate into this years cap where I don't think we have any room for that but that mean salary would be off the books for next year and that wold create room for Byrds salary next year. This year prob no shot. I doubt anyone is gonna trade picks when they know he's gonna be on the market next year anyways.

Jarius Byrd is on the trading block and can be had for a late round draft pick.

I really like Church and Wilcox but Byrd is a special player. The problem is we cannot sign him to a long term deal due to being placed with the franchise tag and also Byrd has missed the season with injury.

This coule be a win win. We get him for a late round pick and can come in and help Wilcox develop. He will be a free agent after the year so we can make that decision to keep or not then.

Bills have a history of letting good players walk. Jason Peters, Marshawn Lynch, Fletcher, Levitrie the list goes on and on.
