The Dez vs Claiborne 1v1 catch.

Good lord!

I can't fault Claiborne for that catch. Not sure if there's a NFL CB who can stop that catch.

Well, I don't really see it as a play calling issue. I see it more as Romo scanning the field and going to the open guy. Which is fine in principle but you have to have special rules for Dez. He's an elite talent. I don't care if he's got a cornerback attached to his hip, the guy is still open.

So to me this is more about Romo becoming comfortable throwing balls to Dez that he wouldn't normally throw to anyone else. Going against everything he's been coached and trained to do.

I agree. I've also seen some footage of Romo missing some wide open guys. There is no way for me to know why he didn't throw them the ball but it happened enough for me to notice. I hope he's not being too conservative for fear of throwing the INT. He does need to take some chances with Dez and he has occasionally. He probably needs to do it more often.

No note on his quickness or nothing....hmmmmmmm

Someone tweeted that he met the great wall of Smith.

That'd be my first thought. I have no idea what his ceiling is. Last year Free was actually a tad better to start the year...based on observation and stats as well as a lot of people saying the same thing. After a few games it's like Smith lit his afterburner. There was no comparison between the two at the end of the year other than they both played tackle for the same team.

Definitely not.

I've seen Dez do that to Revis. That's the thing. That's a rare freak ability we need to feature in this offense. I don't ever want to hear how an opposing team took Dez Bryant away from the offense. Only Tony Romo can take him away and I can't even fault Romo for it. You're not supposed to throw to the covered guy. Dez re-writes the rules, IMO. You can't treat him like the other receivers. You'd be underutilizing him.

Notable Standouts:

  • Davon Coleman – The undrafted rookie defensive tackle couldn’t be blocked when the team went to one-on-one individual drills. He gave the opposing backup interior linemen absolute fits with his quickness, and they could barely get their hands on him before he was upfield.

  • Chris Boyd – Boyd made the first big play of camp, as minicamp standout corner Tyler Patmon was in good coverage on him down the left sideline but couldn’t break up the pass on a streak. Boyd extended and made the play. Unfortunately, later on Boyd was wide open on a double move that left his man in the dust, but he couldn’t hang on to the pass.

  • Tyron Smith – There might not be a player who’s made as drastic an improvement from this point last year until now as Smith. DeMarcus Ware would give Smith fits at camp last year, and now there’s no one who can even try to get by the left tackle, who was perfect during individual drills.
