It's going to be a huge question.

Do we re-sign Crawford at the end of this year? Can we re-sign both Crawford and Hardy? And who will be more valuable.

Honestly, I think a lot will depend on what happens with the secondary this year. If the secondary comes on strong this year with an improved pass rush, we could see the Cowboys invest in a 3 technique in the draft as opposed to resigning Crawford. Especially when you have guys like Hardy or Lawrence moving inside in the nickel.

It'll also depend on how much Crawford will cost going forward. If Canty, Bowen, and Hatcher are any example, someone out there will definitely want to overpay Crawford. I'd love if we could get Crawford resigned for like 4-5 million a year.

I'd love to see Crawford stay, but I also want to see how well he does now that there are outside pass rush options...this season has potential to be very interesting on defense

What do you mean who is more valuable? Is that a serious question?

Hardy is one of the best of the best at his position in the nfl...this isn't close...

The Cowboys have Gregory and Lawrence and Russell and Gardner, and a slew of other developmental ends.

Who is behind Crawford? Whaley? McClain?

Crawford will probably get about 8 sacks this year he's just coming into his own...

I think whether we try to keep Hardy depends on a few factors.

- How he plays
- How expensive he will be to retain
- His off the field behavior
- The development of other defensive ends on the roster
- The cost of other players on the defense
- How well the offense plays going forward

I'd like to see Crawford extended.

Sturm has done a couple reviews of Crawford's game and has come away impressed.

PFF has Crawford as the 13th ranked DT/NT in the NFL for '14.

And finally just watching the guy play, it's easy enough to see the kid is a good player.

I think the ceiling is high on him, especially focusing his entire attention to playing Defensive Tackle. I think Crawford's career was slowed down by a lot of things similar to Hatchers. Injuries, playing the wrong position e.t.c.

I'd like for us to extend him maybe at the mid season of this year. I think he is gonna get a lot better so we should lock him up now before his price spikes

Hopefully we can sign both.

Who don't you sign?

McClain?
Hardy?
Crawford?
Bryant??

We have about 27.7 million under a projected cap of 150 million for 2016.

Depending on Hardy's suspension will determine if we might have some better carry over or if we sign anyone else this year, but working with what we have....

McClain ~7-8 million
Hardy ~12-14 million
Crawford ~7 million
Bryant ~15 million

I think we're looking at at least 41 million dollars. Sure you can pack some of that into long term spending, but I think clearly we have a problem.

That doesn't even include signing any rookies or any of our role players let alone any other free agents next year. The only thing that maybe helps is cutting guys like Carr or having them take pay cuts.

Crawford would have to have one hell of a year to warrant 7 mil per year. And that is a huge jump in salary for McClain as well

7 mil per year would rank him 10th or so if you threw in all the 3-4 DEs/NTs and 4-3 DTs

What may keep his price down from the Cowboys' perspective is that he won't be a 800 snaps per season DT. He'll stay right around the 500-600 mark.
